Gallbladder removal Question

hi gang!     i just had a quick question for you all. i am 2 years out and found that i need to have the ol' gallbladder removed next week. i've been having horrible attacks since losing 180 lbs. my surgeon does not believe in taking it out during a gastric bypass because many people function fine afterward and do not need it removed. well anyway, my question is this: how many of you were able to have it done lap? the reason i ask this is because my surgeon that is performing it told me that he's going to try it lap, but there may be too much scar tissue in that area from the gb to fini**** that way, and it may need to be converted to an open procedure. as you all know, the recovery time is much different between the two, so i was just wondering how many of you were able to have it done lap and how many had to have it done open as a result of scar tissue from gb. thank you in advance for any answers. i truly appreciate it! jessica

Hey Jessica, I had mine removed about 8 mths ago and the Dr told me the same thing. He did mine Lap and he told me that there was almost no scar tissue and it worked out fine. I had my RNY 5 yrs ago and just had to have it out. So he did tell you right, if there is no scar tissue he will be able to do it easily by Lap.  i will keep you in my thoughts and prayers,   A WLS friend Bruce

Hi Jessica,

I too am a little over 2 years post op and had my gallbladder out in Sept., I was worried about having to have it open as well but I was able to have it lap. My RNY was open and I was still able to have the gallbladder lap, I love my surgeon! Good luck! Hugz Dawn

Question for all of you who've had the gallbladder removed?  What exactly were your symptoms?  I'm 14 months post-op and I've had a pain in my right shoulder for about a month, sort of under the shoulder blade.  I've heard this can be a sign of gallbladder trouble.  Besides being gassy on some days, I'm really not having any other problems.

Hi Jessica- I had my gallbladder out and scar tissue removed this summer (2 years out from lap RNY this month).  Both were done laproscopically and I was only out of work for three days despite having a stricture and partial bowel obstruction from the scar tissue.  It was amazing how quick the recovery was.  Good luck Eileen
