Low Blood Pressure Problem
Help! I'm approx 2 weeks out from WLS. Everything was going great, but about 2 days ago my blood pressure took a severe dive......reading about 94/61 and sometimes lower. I'm a BIG guy and I take alot of meds for HIGH blood pressure so needless to say I was shocked when this happened. I'm feeling really light headed......can't walk any further than a few feet. I know to stop taking the meds, but what could be causing this sudden shift it blood pressure? Anybody else experienced this?
WLS Grads board is for patients over a year out from surgery.
That being said, it's probably because you don't need your meds anymore. You need to call your PCP (Primary Care Physician) and find out if there is anything else you can do besides stopping the meds.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Good for you, coming to a place where people might have had the same experience! It doesn't matter how far you are post-op--questions are always welcome!
Speaking for myself, I was out-of-town and found myself having low bp problems. I cut the meds in half until I could reach my doctor to get his input. I was completely off all my meds by the time I was five months out.
Welcome to good health!!!
Yes, I had the same problem. I went for my 2 week checkup and my BP was 90/50. My surgeon immediately stopped my BP medicine. I've been fine ever since. I was not dizzy or having any problems physically from the low BP like you are having. Call your doc.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
My pre-op blood pressure was normal, but my post-op pressure dropped to about 90/60 ... I had to go on meds to raise my pressure, plus I had to increase sodium and water intake. I would almost pass out every time I stood up, and I finally had a tilt table test, and tested postive for "Vasovagal Response."
WLS can cause blood pressure to drop ... If you are dehydrated, this is likely part of the problem. Please call your surgeon and/or PCP asap. Do not change your meds on your own.
Hope you feel better!
