Dumping After 4 years

Recently, within the past month, i've started dumping again by throwing up.  I am not eating any thing different or more or less, just all of a sudden, i will feel horrible and eventually have to throw up.  Last week was the worst I have ever felt.  I was up all night and threw up 5 times throughout the night and it took the 5th time before I finally felt relief.  I had eaten 4 ounces of steak.  I am 4 3/4 years post op and that kind of dumping stopped within the 1st year.   Any one have anything similar happen? An added note to this.....I had a slice of bread and some ceasar salad with the steak as well.  This far out from surgery, i'm sure it isn't a stricture, right?  I've been reading about the hypoglycemia, but I don't think it's that either as it feels like i have something stuck in my chest and hurts so bad and I'm very uncomfortable.  I hope someone has an idea of what could be happening!

Hmm from what I understood that is not really dumping, it sounds like something might have been stuck.  Was this the only incident you had?  I am also 4 years out and still throw up from time to time.  I think in my case it's usually just when I don't chew well enough because I don't really think about it anymore.  Especially with things like steak, you have to chew like crazy or else things can get stuck.  I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly but I believe that scar tissue can also build up so if it continues you might want to check in with your doctor to make sure everything is okay.  Even this far out, the opening leading out of your stomach is only the size of a quarter, so if you swallow something too big, it will get stuck and there is only one way out, so it will work its way back up.

I still dump,on some sugary things. I am 3 years out. The dumping isn't as bad as it was early out, but I still feel it. With the steak you ate, maybe you didn't chew really good. Sometimes we forget that large pieces don't go down like they should. I have a hard time with pork, to dry for me and I have to chew chew till there is nothing left. Maybe try soups for a few days and then gradually add the meat back into your diet. Your esophagus may be really irritated now after all the throwing up. Rhonda

I had RNY in 1998. I dumped on two bites of coconut cream pie a couple of months back. I also will still dump on four ounces of orange juice. I just had a revision in December and darned if a week before surgery I didn't get a turkey sandwich 'stuck' in a stoma that was huge..........go figure. Good Luck, Suzanna
