Hi all - well, I posted last week.  So far from my regain, I have lost 14 lbs in under 2 weeks.  WOO HOO.  Anyway,  I am going through this weird thing.  I know I have lost 14 lbs, my clothes fit better, but people are not noticing.  I was at 231, now at 217.  I think the lack of acknowledgement from pepole is a tad unmotivating as I think 14 lbs is huge!  When one of my (skinny) friends lost 5 lbs, EVERYONE noticed.  Is it because I'm bigger with a lot more to lose?  Or what?  I do remember losing 30 lbs in 3 week right after GBS and not one person noticed. LOL.  Am I going crazy?  I should be happy right?!!!  Thanks guys!

Woo hoo on the weight loss.... You not gonna like my response to this kiddo I know its extremly discouraging when folks just plain don't notice.  I kind of give this scenario to many new pre-ops...  If I weigh 300+ pounds and lose 100 pounds I am still 200 pounds and considered very fat in most folks eyes.   Yet for me to have lost that much they should notice. If I weighed 200 pounds and lost 100 pounds I would be a stick and the WHOLE BLOODY world would notice.  Its just a part of life... Remember this if you feel good about how the weight has come off and it shows in body image folks notice that more than the actual weight loss.  Again congrats on the loss of your regain thats awesome !!!  Be happy but most of all be darn PROUD !!!  I am proud of ya !! WOW, I had never thought of it like that and honestly, I chuckled out loud because it is SO TRUE!  I am still 217!  But, yes, I am darn proud!   Thanks so much for your help!  Made me feel better.....

Part of the problem is the percentages. Yes, you're gonna notice when twig loses 5 pounds. Hell, I had pimples that weighed that much in high school...But with us, we've been hiding our weight for a long long time if not a whole lifetime. They don't see it because we hide it so well.  We notice. We can cheer you on..14 pounds is huge! Congrats to your loss...
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214

Oh wow!  When I read your first couple lines, I was insanely jealous of the 14-lb. loss!  Then as I continued to read, I could understand your frustration!  However, like everyone said, 14 lbs. (unfortunately) is not a big deal TO THE REST OF THE WORLD when we are still at a relatively high weight.  But all of us here on this forum KNOW what a big deal it is and what accomplishment it represents!!   All through the years, when I weighed various amount--all at various points in the 200's--I bounced around so frequently--some years 220, some years 250, eventually almost 300.  I'd gain and lose (sometimes very significant amounts), and I ALWAYS had to lose a huge amount before anyone who didn't know I was dieting would  notice.   I think I gained & lost so many times that people sort of "forgot" how I looked at any given time and simply didn't know if I was on my way up or down!!! It was the same after my wls.  Those who knew I'd had it were watching for the loss and were very complimentary and supportive, but more casual acquaintances (who didn't know) didn't notice until I'd lost more than 50 lbs.--and I can't say I blamed them, since I was still in my 240's, which I'd weighed multiple times  over the years.   And by then, I was feeling gorgeous!! You're doing great--we applaud you!

Always,
Jo

Dont' feel bad after losing my first 80 lbs my aunt asked me if I gained weight...ROFL.  The thing is that when you are close to goal weight....5 lbs make s HUGE differencve...more of a difference then 80 lbs does at 500 lbs.  I think most likely it has to do with the fact that I was wearing MOO MOOs (or the male equivelent) .  Don't feel bad, just keep pressing on...... Congratulations on the 14lb loss~that's fantastic!!! I have found now at 3yr post op that people really don't pay attention so much anymore so if I flux up or down a few no one notices. Also I think sometimes people just don't know what to say so they say nothing at all. Anyway, don't worry about people noticing b/c you can tell in your clothes and in how you feel so that's really all that matters! Keep up the good work and Congrats again!!!!!!!!!!
