How much should you loose a week?

I am just curious as to what the normal weight loss was post op. I lost 15 lbs this week, and while I truely believe that this is terrific, I feel like it may have been to little.  I have a few friends that have had this surgery. They all lost 30lbs plus the first week.  I know that everyone is different, but I was curious to know what the average is or what is to be expected.

I think you're doing great. I lost around 20 pounds the first week, nothing the second week, and a little more the third week, and I wondered if I'd lose another pound. The weight probably won't come off steadily, but it will come off. Just do what your doctor said and you'll get there soon enough!

I lost 14 pound the first week then nothing for two weeks. My loss has been very irratic.  Don't worry, it will come off as long as you keep to the plan

Remember everyone loses at a different rates.  I lost 10 pounds my first week.  i did not own a scale for a long time.  I then lost a toatal of 25 pounds my first month.  I have surpassed my goal by 14 pounds and I am down 4 pant sizes smaller than I ever imagained I would be.  Good luck on your weightloss.

You can expect to lose roughly about 10-15% of your excess weight each month. So if you weigh 250 and want to weight 150.  You are 100 lbs overweight.  You can expect to lose 10-15% of that 100.  So that would be 10-15 lbs.  Then the next month based on 15 lbs lost, you'd be say 85 lbs overweight.  The next month you'd expect to lose 10-15% of that 85.  That would be somewhere about 8.5 to 12 lbs or so.  And so on. From your ticker, it looks like you wanted to lose about 105-110 lbs or so total?  A 15 lb lose in a week is fabulous. I had lost 32 lbs prior to surgery so I only had 86 lbs to my goal from there.  I lost 25 lbs the first month and then 8 the next month, etc.  Think it is on my profile.  It took me 14 months to my goal.  Slower then people that had more to lose.  Do not know why.  Do not care.  I got there, eventually. Good luck, Kathy

I actually came home weighing more than I went in.  Fluid retention sucks!  Anyway, it picked up and I progressed quickly and to where I'd like to be.  I have also heard that your electrolites get way outof wack when yo lose too quickly.  I would say 15 is awesome!  It may pick up next week or stay the same, but don't get discouraged as it will become effortless eventually during the honeymoon phase.

As everyone else has said, you lose what you lose. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is DON'T compare your weightloss to anyone elses. Everyone starts at a different place, different age, different metabolism. I only lost the 10 lbs I gained in the hospital due to all the fluids they fill you with so you don't become dehydrated! But in perspective - I had lost 18 the 2 weeks before surgery and I had lost 100 by the 6 month mark and 123 by the 9 month mark - hitting my goal weight. A great tool is an Excel sheet that gives you a 52 week timeline.  One line is a straight line that shows starting weight and end weight. The other line shows your actual weightloss. You'll find, as long as you follow your doctor's program, that you'll be ahead of the game. If you have access to Excel I can send you a blank doc. Welcome to the journey, and remember, that's what it is, with the ups and downs that all journey's have. Enjoy the side trips as sometimes they can be the most rewarding and memorable.
