My husband was 450 on the day of surgery but had been over 500 (who knows what number) at a point in his life. He is 6'5". He lost 60 lbs the first month, 45 the second month. In 9 months, he was down 205 lbs to 245 or so. He stablized at 245 for about 2 years but with recent stresses (me with cancer and his father ill and then passed away).... he regained up to 295 and is working to get that off again. And yes, the weight is coming off. Just gotta work with the tool you have been given.

I know I'm not a guy.....but when I went for my consultation with the surgeon I was 441 lbs, though at one point I was over 450 easily. I'm only 5'5"....so my BMI was 73.
I had Lap RNY with no problems and have lost 187 lbs so far with 79 left to go to reach the goal my doc and I agreed on. Once I get there...who knows...maybe I'll decide to go farther!?

You might want to post this in the DS Forum. I know there are a few men in there who have been 500 pounds or more - they can advise!

Cosmetic Reconstruction - Dr. Francisco Sauceda (Monterrey, MX) - September 2010
I was 492 lbs the day of my consult, 472 a month later when I had surgery......I had the DS in Feb of 2006...and I've been maintaining my preplastic goal weight for about 3 months now. If you go on to the DS forum, I think Hubba was also SSMO....unfortunately there aren't many men that are active on these forums, and of the ones that are active only a couple of us were SSMO.
Feel free to read my Blog...I kepts a decent record of my journey.
