Question from one month out
Hi guys. I am encouraged by reading everyone's success stories. I have a question. Do any of you, now that you have reached goal, drink with your meals. I was just wondering. My boss had the surgery 5 years ago, lost 80 lbs, gained 15 back, and has from day one not really followed the rules, ie drinking with meals, stuffing herself, etc. Well I was just wondering (everyone always talks about eating normally down the road) and of course drinking with meals is what most "normal" people do. Any info on that would be appreciated.
Hi there! Congrats on your surgery!!!
I am almost 3yrs post and nope, I still do not drink with my meals. I really don't miss it at all, its just my "normal" way of life now. I still monitor my food intake very closely and plan to for a lifetime b/c if I allow too much of the wrong things in I will gain weight back!
My advice to new post ops is always~take advantage of your window of opportunity (first 12-18mths) and follow your dr's orders to the "T". This is the time to replace those old, bad habits with new, healthy ones! You'll be glad when you've followed the rules and make it to your goal~that's a great feeling! I wish you much luck and continued success!!!!!!!

thank you Tracy. I plan on following the rules forever. I like you, want to do what I have to do to keep the weight off. I don't take this surgery lightly at all. I just wondered. Like I said, my boss didn't follow the rules, and that is why it hasn't worked too well for her. I also have read on here that some people are having protein shakes, and food for breakfast, thats why I asked.
I haven't gotten much help from my Dr. (she is on maternity leave, so I saw the PA, and the nurse on my two visits so far) and I only saw my NUT before surgery. They just yelled a bunch of things, no guidance on how many calories to eat, and I have no goal from them. I love this site, thanks again.
P.S. I was told no bread, rice, crackers etc till 9 months out. Well I have read of couse plenty of people who 1 month out are toasting bread..of course those things were what I ate too much of before, so I am going to follow what I was told. I want this to work...
I'm not sure which surgery you had, but most RNYers I know don't drink with meals. They feel they fill up too much.
I drink w/meals but not always. Depends how I feel.
