Hi All,  I haven't been around for a while. In fact I've been acting like I'm not a gastric gypass patient. I've gained 22 pounds since my lowest weight 3 years ago and  I need to get my act together. Support welcome- flaming I can do on my own. Deborah

Hi Deborah - welcome back.     I know many have tried the 5 Day Pouch Test.  It's not a diet, but a way to get back to basics with your pouch for those who are gaining and/or feel out of control with their eating habits.  The web site explains it all.  Many have had success doing this.  It may help you.

Was your lowest weight a place that was reasonable, healthy, and comfortable for you?   How long did you remain at that weight (+/-5#)? At what point did you start gaining weight? How long has it taken to gain the 22# Are you aware of changes in your habits today vs. when you lost/maintained weight? I only ask because I am happy to open the doors to my tool shed, and I need to know which tools are the right ones to get the job done. Karen

Hi Karen, My lowest weight was 198.  I had hoped to get down to 180. I stopped losing weight when I had bacterial cilitis and had to eat only simple carbs until I recovered.  Unfortunately, I never got back on track.  I think that i need to get back to eliminating simple carbs and exercising regularly.  At this point my goal is to get back to where I was and then see if it is reasonable to lose another 20 pounds. I welcome you suggestions.  Oh- I gained the 22 poinds over a 2 year period but it has acceperated over the last 6 months ( probably 10 pounds in six months) dd

Best of luck getting it off.  I guess protien and exercise would help. Back to basics.  Hope you lose it soon :)

Hi Deborah,  Good Luck on getting back on track, once you do, you'll find it oh so worth it. It was very tough putting all of my negative behaviors on paper, but once I did, I felt as if a burden had been lifted. I also shared with others, and in doing so recieved overwhelming support. The 5 day pouch test was a great kick start for me, and you know the rest, protein, water, and exercise. Good Luck to you!

Aliya....and lovin it

Thanks Aliya,

I am working on cooking lots of protein and vegetable dishes to eat during the week as we speak.  It helps if i plan what I'm going to eat and take my own food to work.  I'm sure you know all that- just reminding myself.

Deborah, I'm in a similar place....but I need to lose about 35 lbs. that I've regained now.  In reality, I know exactly how this has happened...like you said, I've been acting like I'm not a RNY patient!!  I know the key is to start to live by the rules, but mentally/emotionally I need to be in a place to do that, and I've struggled to get there.  I can't afford counselling right now, which is what I think would be most beneficial. I have a "plan" laid out, that perhaps you'll find something helpful: * read my eating journal from my "losing" days to remind myself how I used to eat successfully * journal/post often * weigh myself at least twice a week..and write it down * Protein first, always * no drinking 30 min. before or after meals * exercise....even 15 minutes is better than not at all * stop eating sugar......small amounts (like one small cookie once a week) can be allowed AFTER I get to goal again * "healthy" carbs in controlled amounts * Plan menu ahead of time * No grazing!!!!!! Now, the real trick...following the plan!!!!! I NEVER swayed from my program for nearly TWO YEARS...got to goal (under, actually) and stayed for 18 months successfully...and have been back sliding like crazy since then!!  I've had a TON of changes in my life since then, and just need to get my grip back. I know we can both do it Deborah!!  Make your plan, and start TODAY! Kathy

Can I join your club ? It's been two years since my surgery. My lowest was 212 ( for about a day) and I have been hovering between 225-230 . I know I have been "grazing" alot more than I should. Back to the "old way of eating" skipping meals then binging on what ever is available. I have been trying to stay away from the sugar ( except sunday I "tried" a piece of birthday cake .......and didn't dump !  ) I haven't been exercising. I need to get my butt in gear.... Soooo.....what are we going to do ? Sandy
