Very Scared - - Need HELP!!!
Hi Kathy,
I had surgery a couple weeks after you and am in the same boat. Whether on not I've stretched my pouch isn't so much the issue...its the snacking that you mentioned!
I can eat quite alot too...especially of soft foods and "slider foods" (empty carbs). Someone would never know I've had RNY by watching me eat most days, I'm ashamed to say!! I will say though that if I eat like I'm supposed to...protein first, slowly, no drinking....I fill up on less and don't get hungry.
I don't mean to sound harsh...because I'm in the same position....but I really think you need to get on top of your behavior first..then if the weight doesn't stop climbing and start coming off, then talk to a surgeon. Let's face it, you could have the tiniest pouch around and still gain weight if you eat the wrong things and too frequently...which is precisely what I've been doing the past 18 months or so! Perhaps the type of "doctor" you and I need to visit is a counselor to identify why we're not taking care of our bodies properly...just like we always used to pre-op!
Good Luck to you...and congratulations at taking the first step toward getting back under control! The slippery slope is very slippery..I know, I'm on it too!!
Kathy
For the most part the foods you listed are indeed "slider" aka soft calories. They are going to slide through the stoma. How much dense food can you eat? How many ounces of chicken, beef, etc? Kathy

I really can't each much more than one boneless, skinless chicken breast, or one pork chop, or one hamburger at one sitting. These would be just by themselves without vegetables, cottage cheese, bread, noodles, etc. In fact, I get really full when just eating one of those shown above. I need to get my head straight and start eating those things for the 3 meals and have protein drinks/bars in between or in evening when I want to snack. Would that be good to start doing? We're so use to sitting down to a meal with meat, vegs, etc. I'm going to just need to do the meats only given that they make me full after eating them. Look forward to hearing from others. Kathy P.
You might check out the book "The Beck Diet Solution" because it really isn't about any particular diet but about getting your head right. It is based on cognitive behavior therapy--something used with great success for many bad habits. It is all about changing your thinking to change your behavior. And since it sounds like grazing is a problem for you, this might help.
Good luck,
Sally
