I take two shots per month - every month.  However, what you may need might be different, especially if it's been that long since you've had any B12.

I take 5000 mg daily sublingual.  Worked my way up as I watched my labs.  Haven't needed shots thus far.

Good luck, Kathy

I know of one person who had leg cramps from too much B12, but your doctor should be able to give you a heads up on what to look for.   I did one shot a month but my B12 is a bit low but still in the normal range, so my doctor wants me to add three sublinguals a week. Good luck, Sally

I take 1CC of 1000mg each week.  I actually order my through my vet - it is cheaper than my copay.   Good luck! Valerie

I do the 1ml weekly and still can't get my levels where I want them. If I think of it, I do mid-week as well.

Old levels: 200-900
New levels: 800 is the bottom

So, your object is to put your levels over 800, however you have to do it. Shots and/or sublinguals.

We're born at 2000 and B12 cannot go toxic.

My Dr. just told me that he was dropping my monthly b-12 shots to every two months.. He didn't check my labs only said to start coming every other month.  I told him I would see how I felt at the end of that to determine if I needed to go back to everymonth. Tammy

Uh, I think I would be telling your doctor to take a flying leap! and I'd find me a new doctor.     We do not absorb B12 AT ALL.  So how in the world does he think that B12 shots once every other month is going to cut it?  That's just crazy!  As you just saw by the replies in this thread,  some are, doing WEEKLY shots and still can't get their levels up to optimum.  He didn't even check your labs - just told you to come back in two months?  Is this your bariatric surgeon, or your PCP?  Yep, I'd find another source for your B12 shots.  Call your surgeon.   Something.

This was my regular GP.  I haven't seen my Gastric by pass surgeon since 6 months out.  Said I didn't need to see him if I didn't have any complications which I didn't! ASf for finding a new Dr.  good luck!!  Were I live, there is a shortage of Dr's.  So you need to hold onto the one you got!   I had asked him if I could learn to give myself the b-12 or have my hubby do it and he told me it was too much trouble to be tought how!  That was when he told me to start coming every other month! Honey, giving yourself a shot is not rocket science.  You can do it.  I would guess you could find yourself a WLS support group and someone there could show you how to do the shots; if you could get them more often.  I don't want to go so far as to encourage someone to "go underground" for medical treatment or go "off grid" if you will and go to a vet and B12 or what have you; but, I can tell you - if it were my health at stake, I would do what I had to do to keep myself healthy.  Folks give themselves insulin injections every day - B12 isn't any different than that.  You don't need a medical degree to give yourself a B12 shot!!  If you absolutely can not get a B12 shot any more than once every 2 months - no way no how; then I'd be very liberal in taking sublingual B12.   You simply must have more B12 coming into your body than once every two months.
