2 years out - hunger, vomiting, & pain
I made it through almost 2 years almost without incident. I vomited a couple of times early on when food got stuck, but otherwise its really been a breeze until now. During the first 2 years I had absolutely no appetite unless I was ill. I ate to consume the food needed and always take my vitamins and protein shakes. I lost 120 pounds and got to goal although I did gain back about 5 pounds. I recently found I am constantly hungry and I'm definately reaching for bad foods. (I may have a sinus infection) I always eat sugar-free low-fat, but lately they aren't the best choices. I average about 1000 to 1200 calories a day and exercise 2 hours 3 times a week. I started to vomit fairly frequently. I almost think I'm thinking I'm hungry when I'm getting nauseous. After I eat something I vomit. My pouch is getting progressively sensitive over the last few weeks. Last night I went out and had a small amount of a cheese burrito and as a treat a glass of wine. I woke up with a very painful pouch. It feels like after my surgery a painful lump in my chest. Everything I eat or drink makes it hurt more. Has anyone else suddenly developed hunger. Is this vomiting due to the food choices or could there be something wrong? I don't think its swollen or blocked because it isn't with every meal. Anyone with any similar experiences or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Sharon
I do still have my gallbladder. I know that I am even more sensetive to higher fat than to higher sugar. The difficulty with seeing my surgeon is that I have recently relocated from NJ to Wyoming. I'm not certain that another doctor will see me post surgery. I'm going to try to find a GP today and hopefuly they can help me to find a specialist that will see me. Thanks, Sharon
I started getting hungry about 6-8 months after surgery and I am 22 months out now. I have the same problems with pain and nausea and its my gallbladder. I will have it taken out over the christmas holidays. Get it checked out, I know the pain is not fun. Hope you feel better. Studies show that up to 30% of people who lose a tremous amount of weight have problems with their gallbladder.
Good Luck
Rachel
Where in Wyoming are you? There are 3 surgeons in Billings, Montana which is in Southern Montana. There is also a lot of surgeons in Colorado including Greeley, Denver, and Colorado Springs. I think even Fort Collins has one now. In Wyoming there are 6 surgeons listed on this site - Richard Fermelia - Cheyenne; M. Whitney Parnell - Cheyenne; James Balliro -Jackson; Dennis M. Lewis M.D., F.A.C.S. - Riverton'; Nick Morris - don't know where; Take Pullos - don't know where.
My surgeon is Dr. Michael Snyder at Denverbariatrics.com - he uses Rose Medical Center in Denver. They are all surgeons on top of being bariatric surgeons so am sure one of them will see you for a gallbladder problem. Biggest thing that anyone that works on you needs to know is not to put a tube down your throat without a scope so they don't hurt your pouch. I had surgery in February and they were really good about it. I also wear an medical id bracelet with my surgeon's number on it in case of an emergency when I am not able to speak up. You can get them at http://www.gingersgourmet.com/.
Good Luck!
