Help!- 3 years out and having sharp pain when swallowing!!

Hi, I posted this also on the main forum but I am hoping some of you other long-time grads may be able to help me with this. Hoping someone on the board can help. I am 3 years post-op from very successful RnY surgery. Lost 50% of my total body weight (from 207 to 107) and even though I've gained back 8, I am thrilled with my success. I have been a textbook model patient with nary a hiccup until yesterday.

Yesterday, I was eating a snack (soy chips) and had a sharp stabbing pain below my sternum in the middle of my chest. I thought maybe I had eaten too fast and had something stock, but it doesn't feel that way. The pain has continued through until this morning. I have pain when i press against my stomach or when I swallow something, even water or tea. The pain is not debillitating unless I am swallowing something. It's not my throat that hurts. It feels more like its happening when stuff hits the pouch. I have noticed I have a little more "belching" than usual (I actually make these weird burbley noises - but that's another story!).. But it doesn't feel like gas pains at all. Last evening, I just had a protien drink for dinner and this morning, all I've had is yogur****er and decaf tea.

I would call my Dr., but that would be my GP. Unfortunately, I am living out of state for a year and would have to contact her back in Chicago. Add to that the difficulty with it being the day before Thanksgiving when everyone is on the road...You see my problem. The pain is not so severe that I feel like the emergency room is needed (I slept comfortably through the night last evening).

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions would be VERY much appreciated! I am on my own for the holidays and am concerned.

Sounds like it may have been a gall bladder attack.

This may be way off, but do you think you could have scratched your inside your pouch with a soy chip and caused a sore patch that has become irritated?

sounds like an ulcer.  I had the same symptoms last week. that was my problem last week.  My surgeon had me come in and he did an endoscropy on me and found a few ulcers.  So now I'm on prescription meds to heal them. I started the meds last Thursday and i felt better within a day.  Not great but at least better.  Stuff goes down without hurting. Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving. Koukla
