Bounce Back - It's smacked me upside the head

And now its time to smack back, so here I go posting to make myself accountable to myself and others...Guess from many of the posts I've been seeing lately many are in the same boat with me, needing to be more diligent about keeping up with ALL the vits and sliding down the slippery slope of confidence that we know what we are doing and then falling of track - I know I was warned in advance that bounce back of 10-15% is common around the 2 year mark and of course, told myself ( deluded, whats new) that this was NOT going to be me, now here I am, this morning up 8 lbs from where I want to be when I swore that once I got to +3 I would do what ever it took to get back down to my "magic" number ( yes I am a slave to my scale, but this is what works as a healthy reminder for me)...

Know I have lost control of several of the good habits I developed early on and now need to get back to them...Resolved this afternoon, its over, I cannot do my pre-op cop-out and say it'll wait until after the holidays...Banning excess simple carbs for my choices and limiting refined sugar to 5 grams or less per serving AND its time to get back to 3 small MEASURED meals and 2 good snacks with NO side tracks...

Just my two cents...Keep the course, work the program, remember RNY only fails you if you fail it...

Just my .02$ when I read these posts about bounce back I very seldom see anything about exercise.  IMO the real slippery slope is not making a commitment to working out at the minimum 3x's a week. I am by no means saying the return of bad eating habits are not a huge factor in the equation, they are. However, it is never just a problem of just one this, or that.  I'm not just talking cardio, but a very concerted effort to build muscle i.e., strength training.  Muscle requires more fuel to maintain and allows for those occasional slips.  At almost 3 years out I am still consistently losing (actually trying to up my caloric intake to maintain my weight).  With all this said it has never been easy for me to make the gym commitment, but I do it.  I wish everyone a joyous holiday season filled with sweating at the gym :-)

I work out at least  3 times a week and do kung fu.  Watch what I eat and continue to be sugar free, but I am not losing.  I know I have gained muscle.  In fact, I've gained a bit and that frustrates me. But I know I am getting in my protein drinks and keeping the carbs down etc. I agree we need to keep up the exercise, and that's what I'm doing AND watching what I eat.  Any thoughts?'blessings, Tami

Hi Vi,

You make a very valid point and one for me that needs to be addressed...I have and still include in my program since 3 months out 3 days a week of water aerobics that includes a segment with 2 lbs weights for strength training...That being said, I will also admit that early on I never missed a scheduled class ( not for ANY reason ) once I reach my goal, I did feel like if I missed one here and there for other commitments, it would be OK...Late last night after finishing my Tuesday class I started thinking that really my gym visits could be 5 days a week with some tread-time and weight machines mixed in on the other 2 days...Now I just have to decide on how to work those extra 2 days into my other commitments...

Thanks for the suggestion, that is what prompted me to make the post, outside eyes always offer a fresh view of what can be done to stay with the program...

Hello,  I'm 3 1/2 years out from lapband, and my eating has been getting out of control, and I've gained 30 pounds.  Reading this forum helped!  I also quit working out and started again this morning 40 min on elliptical.  I realized that the message boards helped me lose the weight, and stay on track,  I now need to ask for your help getting me back on track!  Any ideas, recommendations?   Kim

How's it going with you? Have you lost any of that 30 you put back on? I'm a year and a half out and struggle to lose more (Although it's still much easier than it was prebanding). I never exercise and I know that is what is holding me back. I like hearing from people who are farther out! Thanks! : ) Linsey
