I do not use a journal, but thought it would help me keep a more accurate record of the foods, calories & carbs I'm eating. Which online journal do you find most helpful use and/or prefer: Fitday.com Sparkspeople.com CalorieKing.com Calorie-counter.com or another.........?

Well, are you looking for a diet program which will figure/log your calories, carbs, fats, proteins, etc or a journalling program where you can write out your thoughts, feelings, struggles, etc?  I use Dietpower for logging in my intake so I know exactly how much of everything I'm consuming everyday.  You can get a 15 day free trial on it, then it's only $50.  There are other freebies online loaded with advertizing, etc but this one works for me.  Also allows me to put in my recipes and it figures out the nutritional values per serving too. And it substracts calories burned with exercise too.  I also use a journalling program called My Journal. It comes with a 45day free trial and costs I think $40. to liscense it.  I know for me personally, if I actually pay out of pocket for software, I am more apt to really use it.  But I use the journal to write my thoughts, fears, hopes, goals, etc out.  When there's really no one who will listen/understand me and what I go thru struggling with the weight issues?  I go journal.  And it helps:-)  But whichever program you choose, the important thing is to use them............. www.dietpower.com www.davidrm.com/thejournal/ Carol J

I use FitDay, but I bought the software ($20) and put it on my computer.  Mainly because my internet is hinky and that way I still have access to the journal even if the internet is down.  I just love it. Good luck, Donna

I use sparkpeople.com and it does have an online journal feature, all for free.  I can track my nutrition, exercise, water, other goals of my choosing, I can journal and sparkpeople sends me daily emails with recipe ideas, exercise and nutrition guidance, and other cool stuff.  I even get to earn points!  Can't do anything with them but it motivates me to log in each day and use the program.  Whatever works!

I also bought the fitday.com software and downloaded it for the same reason - in case my internet is ever down - I still have access to what I need.  It's well worth the $20.  I'm also a member at Sparkpeople and like what they have to offer overall, and for a "normie" that has not had WLS, just trying to lose weight conventionally, I think it's an awesome site.  But, as a post-op, I prefer WLS based sites and that specific support as of course, my needs are unique.  As far as the tools offered for tracking food, journaling, etc...I still prefer my $20 fitday software.

I use the software from calorieking.com for my Palm Pilot.  Then I have it with me wherever I go and I don't have to keep track and record later when I have access to a computer.  The PDA software is relatively in expensive -- somewhere between $20-30 I think -- and it's super easy to use.  I've been using this software daily for about 18 months and I think tracking my food/weight/exercise daily is key to continuing to lose (I'm 2 years out from surgery, and still losing, albeit slowly).   Good luck on finding a tracking tool that works for you - it's an invaluable tool for me, and may be for you as well!   Kellie

I use FitDay online AND I bought the software (I record my food at work online and then at home on the software - the software has better reporting features) and I use dailyplate.com online as well, since it has a lot of foods that FitDay doesn't.  I find that a small bit of recording obsession takes away the bigger eating obsession.
