Linda,

If you would like a nutritionist to see your diet the best place to post would be the nutriton board.  That is where they moderate.  I don't know if you will get an answer on this board. Jessica

Hi, I am no Registed Dietician but I can tell you that they totally poo-poo the idea of the 5DPT. They regard it as a "fad diet".  However, as a person who has been-there-done-that...It TOTALLY worked for me, More than the physical aspect of feeling that full sensation, it helped with the mental giant of being in control again. It works like a charm! That being said, I don't know if any of the RD's on OH's nutrition forum are post op RNY'ers or not. I do know that their main focus is to drive traffic to their own website so they can generate business. I am all for capitalism but would rather just do my own research and rely on the encouragement of others who have BTDT instead of RD's who are looking to work up an eating plan for $100 for me on their website. AGAIN, this may work for others and I support them in their endeavors. But for me, the 5DPT and pouch rules ROCK! Good luck! I am so proud of you and others like you who have formulated their own systems to stay on track. Your plan B makes sense to me! Any "plan" you follow that involves the basic rules of the pouch is awesome. You can call it South Beach, WW, 5DPT, Plan B or whatever...so, kudos to all of us who are planning our work and working our plan instead of dumping all day on freaking fudge, champagne and cheesecake like I did last year. When I eat that crap it's like I am on drugs. On the couch with no energy, ect! That is no way to live! Sorry for the ramble!

Wow, Thanks Linda. Sounds like you have been through a lot and are not making any excuses. That is a contagious attitude!  Sorry about the little rant about fudge ect. But my personal experience is that when I eat that stuff I am a horrible wife, mommy and home maker. Eating sugars totally sucks the life out of me. I even avoid sugars in milk, ect. I have found that I am very sensitive to them and I get crabby, tired and short tempered when I eat them. Especially during the holidays. Also, I have found that my blood sugar spikes and crashes have GONE away totally now. Eating small amounts of protein and complex carbs at regular intervals throughout the day really helps. I used to complain of becoming "hypoglycemic" but found that by eliminating my sugars I am miraculouly cured of this! LOL! Ah..gotta love eating right!

Hello Linda, First off, I am not a RD, all I know of nutrition is what I have read (alot) and what works for me.  I have read your post and profile about Plan B, and am happy it is working for you.  But I do have a few questions as to why you think your RNY failed.  Looking at your preop weight and height, your BMI was 34.3.  I am very curious as to what your surgeon told you to expect as the result of your surgery?  Please do not take offense at that question, as I am not placing any blame on you for the amount of weight you have lost postoperatively.  It looks like you had been regaining after a weight loss before surgery.  Your RNY has halted any further weight gain, gotten you off of insulin, and has reduced your weight further.  If you had not had RNY and had the foot and tailbone injuries that has kept your mobility impaired, wouldn't you have gained alot more weight during this time?  Perhaps your RNY has not failed.  Yes, the hunger demons are still there with RNY, but we have so much better control over them than being a non-op.  Perhaps without the RNY, you wouldn't have been able to successfully follow your Plan B? Looking at your Plan B, it is a very balanced food plan.  This would work for me in maintainance, but not for the losing phase.  Eating three fruits a day would be too much sugar for me, even the natural fructose sugar found in fruit.  I would eat more vegetables to fill me up.  I would also be eating more protein, and less starch.  The source of the starch is critical to me.  I avoided all "white" starch during my weight loss phase, meaning no potatoes, white rice, or cereals.  Only multi-grained breads, and limited quantities of those.  The sugar free pudding is adding an additional 200 calories a day to your diet, yet probably not filling you up.  Perhaps one a day, in the evening as a special treat.  Always try for very dense foods, as these will stay in your pouch longer.  Always follow the no drinking rule with and after meals.  I ate more nuts as a snack, and didn't worry about the fat content in them, as they are a healthy fat.  As you know, your mileage will vary, and I am only offering my advice as to what's worked for me. Best of luck to you as you heal from your foot surgeries. Debra M.
