how to tell if you're really hungry?
I need your help!!! I'm two-years post-op RNY and am currently in treatment for an eating disorder (bulimia and associated disorders). I struggle with knowing when my body is in need of nourishment...for real or in my head. I'd like to hear from other RNY post-ops about your take on hunger after surgery.
Please visit my blog and post your reply. I'd like to collect them in one spot so I can use them for reflecting and journalling. Thanks so much for your help in advance!

Since I'm in a treatment program all day, I may not get back to check the messages posted here for a bit.

I have been wondering about eating disorders after wls, I have found that I have become somewhat bulemic, there are times I will binge and then force myself to throw up, I never did anything like this before and it happens maybe 5 or so times a week, is this common after surgery? I tried to take anti depressants and anxiety medicine, but they make me want to eat all day long and I couldn't take it, I would rather be an emotional disaster then eat all day, so I feel stuck. I never can tell when I am truly hungry or just needing liquids.
I am finding very little information out there about ED after WLS. It's like no one wants to talk about it. And I find it incomprehensible that an entire group of people previously morbidly obese (and many likley from compulsive eating) don't develop a realted eating disorder after surgery.
If you question whether you are bulimic, whether you avoid eating to get fat, etc., then you owe it to yourself to look further into what EDs are. I like this site: www.somethingfishy.org

Believe me, I read between a lot of lines on here. IMHO, I think many of us are somewhat deluded into thinking that some of our post-op behaviors are ok...as long as we don't get fat again.

I am the bulemic's worse nightmare..or maybe blessing in disguise..I can't throw up to save my life! I've not been able to vomit since I've had surgery..not once..just foamies and dry heaves.. the only time food comes up is when it doesnt' go down in the first place..
best of luck to you in your research, ti woudl be an interesting and probably helpful journal to read.

My journey is successful, only because I remember what road I was on when I started it..and my determination to never go back to that road will keep me going in the right direction.

Thanks jen. I will check out that web site. I tried to post on here about it before and it wouldn't show up, I was thinking it was because I used the word bulemic and they didn't want issues like that addressed on here or for new people to think it could be an issue. I appreciate your input and advice.
