Good Morning: I've been checking this website every day for the past 4 years.  There are many of us that have the same problems that we help each other through. I'm very disappointed in myself.  I've gained 38 pounds and feel very very crappy.  I did this RNY in September, 2003 (420 lbs) so that I would live to see my grandchildren grow.  I'm determined to loose the 38 pounds plus 12 more for a total of 50 lbs.  I won't commit to further weight loss without further physician direction.  He's aware of my doing this process right now. Tell me if my 1st day selections are fine or whether I need to change: B = Advantage protein shake S = 3 oz Car/Sugar reduced yogurt L  = Advantage protein shake S = 4 oz. sugar free pudding D = 1 cup chicken/beef broth        4 oz. sugar free pudding S = Advantage protein shake Plus I'm drinking water throughout the day.  I did have a large decaf ice coffee on the way to work with skim milk. Look forward to hearing from others about my choices as well as keeping me on track. Because of my weight gain and the fact that I believe I can do this, I'm planning to do liquids for 5 days then do the days 2/3 and then the days 4/5.   WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You CAN do this Kathy!!!! I did shakes and s/f pudding and had cream soup once. I tried to do broth, but it brought back too many memories of just after surgery, LOL. I also did not use yogurt, but  I don't see why you couldn't~it wasn't on the list that I read so I didn't even think of it???I ended up doing 5 shakes per day so if you get hungry I think you could add another one to combat that.  Well, keep us posted on how things are going for you!!!!!

Tracy: I appreciate your response.  Not sure where I got the idea of having the yogurt.  I'll replace that with either the pudding or jello. I just don't want to fail at doing this.  I really really need to lose this weight.  If I can't do this, I'll have no choice but to visit my surgeon to talk about having the lapband placed over my RNY.   I'm keeping my attitude positive and trying not to let "stressful" situations make me wander. Thanks again, Kathy 11/12/07 1220

Wanda, where do you find s/f choc/mint pudding?? What brand is it? Do you need to prepare it or is it in the little cups?? I've seen the regular jello brand choc/mint, but never the sf and it sounds SO good! Thanks in advance! And good luck with the 5days~you CAN do it!!!!

Hi again Kathy!!! I"m not sure that the yogurt is out, I just didn't use it b/c I didn't see it on the list. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this b/c it would be nice to be able to do yogurt during those first 2 days!!!! You hang in there and keep updating when you can!

No need to replace the yogurt.  I asked about it.  Here is the response: Questions and Answers: Yogurt and Liquids

Is yogurt OK for Days 1 & 2? Yogurt is perfectly fine for Days 1 & 2 "liquids" -- and you can use it as a between-meals snack on the other days. You can always add a protein powder if you feel you need a little protein boost. Remember to measure your portion and eat no more than 1 cup.

Can I have protein shakes on Days 3, 4 and 5? You can include protein drinks on Days 3-5, but only as between meal snacks if you are hungry. It is best to stick with the menu foods, but on the other hand if you are hungry or "snacky" go for the protein shake. It will rev your metabolism and satiate your hunger.  You should be able to get plenty of protein (40-70 grams) from the foods listed, but if not add a protein supplement such as the shakes or if necessary a protein bar. Remember one ounce of protein contains 7 grams of protein (as a general rule) so you need 10 ounces for the full 70 grams - that's just over 3 ounces per meal.

What about milk products for shakes and soups? Are they ok to use on the 5DPT? If you can tolerate milk, absolutely use it. Many WLS patients become lactose intolerant (me too- bummer!) so that is why there is always a caution about using milk products. But actually, fortified milk is a very healthy part of your diet if you can handle it - and you are right - cream soups with water = ICKY!!! Hope everything is going well.  Kaye is very responsive on the 5-day plan so don't be afraid to ask her questions. Rob

Wanda: Thanks for responding.  We can check on each other every day.  That will help me during this to know that someone is out there watching over me.  I can do the same for you.  It would be like the "buddy system". Well, 1/2 of day one is now over so on to the 2nd half of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE CAN DO IT.  Positive attitude is a real plus. Kathy
