Curly hair after surgery :cool:

Good morning Graduates,
When I was a child I had naturally curly hair, which went stright. I got perms for almost 30 years up until I had my surgery. My hair is now natural curly again since the surgery. Anybody else get that bonus with their surgery??

I had the same thing happen to me.  It is sooo weird.  My beautician was so shocked. 

I hadn't really thought about it before, as my hair is always curly, but I just realized that it has been MUCH curlier since my surgery.

Well, actually - YES!  I've always had wavy hair, with lots of body and such, but not really curly hair (like with ringlets).  Then over the past couple of years or so, it's gotten curly - really curly!  Like - permed looking curly.  I honestly thought it was because of menopause.  I hadn't considered that the WLS might have anything to do with it.   About a year ago I finally went and got it cut shorter with layers and my goodness - it set those curls free!     It's sooooo easy to take care of.  I really like it.  Why do you think WLS could make our hair curly?  Some nutrient or something we're not absorbing?  Some other change in our bodies as a result of the new plumbing or something?  Hormone malabsorption or something?    I'm over 3 years post-op, so it's definitely not a temporary thing from anesthesia or something - it actually kept getting curlier the farther out from surgery I got.  I just tell everyone that I'm so busy that God gave me a perm to save me time. 

Right here! I've got super curly hair..ringlets almost..I love it, and the more the hair grows, the curlier it is.. I always wanted curly hair and a size 4 body..and now i"ve got it! :)  Jess

And I had a mass of unmanageable ringlets most of my life. Oh, the misery of unrelenting curls in the 60's!! NOW that I'm lazy and wouldn't mind just wash 'n poke, it's straight as a stick, mostly. I still have some random curls that sit right on top of the straight-cannot-be-curled-at-any-cost hairs.

Yes, it got this straight after WLS. At one point, I was swimming, so cut it short, knowing I'd have soft curls all over! NOPE. Just the ones that are not convenient. The rest, strait as a stick.

I have seen more ppl go curly than straight, but they were straight pre-op and now have uniform natural curl.

That definitely did not happen to me!!! My hair has been bone straight for my whole life...have surgery, hair falls out, comes back STRAIGHT again....no fair 

I had that happen... I had curly hair after surgery... When  it fell out, it came back in curly.. But it didnt last.... It is now straight again..... I liked the curly hair better too....
