What percentage of weight loss is successful?
The research I've read has the range of 40% to 70% loss of excess weight as the standard. So I gather these are considered successes. I know most of us would not be happy with a 70% loss much less a 40%, but if you consider the success rate for diets, that is a fantastic number. For just dieting, the expected "success" is 10% of your body weight. So for someone at 300 pounds to lose 30 pounds dieting , that would be considered a success.
Obesity and weight loss are hugely complex and not fully understood issues. Any significant loss should be seen as a success even if it is not down to the number you desire.
And remember, your age, how long you''ve been obese, and your genetics will play a role in whether 100% loss of excess weight is realistic for you.
Good luck,
Sally
