Second chance...
I am currently in a research study testing a device that will re-tighten the stoma, thereby hopefully recreating the gastric bypass effectiveness. It's a similar idea to Stomaphyx except Stomaphyx modifies the pouch, rather than the opening. Theory has it that making the opening smaller again will cause the fullness, etc, etc.
Because it's a study, everything is free! I'm in the middle of all the baseline tests and the outpatient, non-invasive procedure is scheduled for Nov. 13. In the short term, it will obviously be beneficial because the post diet is the same as gastric bypass, including liquids during the healing phase. No way to not lose weight.
The drawback is that since it's a study, I could be randomized into the control group who doesn't actually have the procedure done. You still go through a process and aren't told until 6 months out. I can't understand how someone wouldn't be able to tell whether they could eat or not, but according to the research coordinator, participants frequently guess wrong. At 6 months, if you didn't get it, you then have the option of really getting it and following the diet regime again. I ALMOST hope I'm a control and then will be "forced" to modify my behavior for an entire year. I figure by then good habits will HAVE to be in place.
I am truly looking at this as a miraculous second chance and don't intend to blow it! I will be one who has no idea if I really had it because I'm not going to push the edges. I'll try to keep you guys updated on the process and the experience.
YIPPIE!!! For you!!
I am so excited for you!
I know I don't qualify to be on this board, but i visit it ever now and
then to see what is ahead of me!
I hope the procedure, or psuedo procedure works out for you.
You have such a great attitude about it...You're right...it'll make you
behave w/ your food choices, or liquid phase....
And I love FREE....how about that? Ha......
