Does anyone follow any particular weight loss programs such as Weigh****chers or The South Beach Diet? My doc said not to do anything like that, but I am beginning to think I really should. Has anyone had any successful experience post-op with anything like this? -=db=-

Hi there.  I lost the last 25 pounds while going to Weigh****chers.  I did not follow their program, really (since I could not possibly eat all that food or tolerate all those carbohydrates. ) but I used it as a weekly weigh in and support group.  My food plan is still protein first and vegetables second with carbs only occasionally. Now that I am a Lifetime member of WW, I can go every week for free.  I weigh in, and listen/talk to others about making good food choices.  For me, it is a free weekly support group and a nice bunch of men and women to talk to.  I haven't made a big deal about the WLS with anyone there-- it's just nice to have a group that helps me to be accountable each Saturday morning at 7 am.  As I get farther down the road and the capacity to eat more (and the carbohydrate demon rears its ugly head) I plan to keep going as often as I can -- just to keep aware of my weight and take quick action when/if the numbers go up!  I'll have to start paying if I get above my goal weight, and that might be an incentive as well.  It's nice to have a "live" support group along with the support group that I have on line!

I am almost two years out and have not been able to lose the last 20 pounds on my own. I started Weigh****chers a week and a hal*****o help hold me accountable and I have lost 3.8 pounds so far. I think by following the points program, I am re-training myself about portion control which I believe has been my downfall. I am excited and optimistic about being back on track and FINALLY finishing what I started 23 months ago.  Shay

I "do" South Beach I guess you could say. All of that lean dense protein along with the use of my pouch makes for a wonderful combo. I get full and my blood sugars stay nice and steady (no sugar crashes I used to think was hypoglycemia!). Also, the less I eat carbs, sugar, bread and the like the less I crave for them. I used to go on shameful benders and eat frozen cookie dough, Ritz Crackers, Triscuts, PB & J sandwiches, Starbucks pasteries and all that crap. It sent me straight to the couch and totally stole all hope from me until I stopped consuming it. I detoxed from sugar really strictly a couple weeks ago and my energy has increased a lot too. After eating too much sugar for so long I had forgotten what it felt like to be off of it and life is better. Oh yeah...and you lose weight too! I am down about eight pounds so far. Cutting out carbs/sugar and all that jazz is clearly becoming the key to my success! Therefor, I follow South Beach way of eating. Hopefully for life even if it is just phase III. Hope that helps! Doesn't South Bea*****lude a good bit of carbs (good ones of course)?  I've noticed that while looking at their frozen entrees and was wondering if that caused any problems?    Do you have a South Beach book?  If not, how do you know what you're supposed to eat? I'm asking because I had my surgery in December of 2005 and I really just don't know what to eat anymore.  Thanks.
