Once again, bad news. I weighed in this morning after spending the week eating low carb, small portions, exercising every day, even an 11 mile 1600' climb on Saturday and guess what? I GAINED two pounds from last week!!! I am going crazy. -=db=-

All this muscle is making my clothes tight! I don't think it's muscle, it's fat. I am just getting fatter and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. I am utterly discouraged. -=db=-

If I gain any more "muscle" I am going to look like Arnold Schwartzeneggar....People will think I am on steroids. If it were lean muscle I wouldn't have this problem squeezing into a size 16. -=db=-

I feel for you, I really do.  I had my surgery in December of 2005 but am starting to gain a few and I'm very upset about it. I read some of your posts several days ago on this subject and seems to be I remember you mentioning that you're eating very little food at a time.  I wonder if that is part of your problem.  You say you're exercising a lot.  Maybe your body is holding on to its fat because you're not giving it enough fuel.  I really believe in the starvation mode thing.   I have a feeling I haven't been taking in enough calories either.  Just a thought.  Good luck to you. I don't really believe in the starvation mode thing because by that logic none of us would have lost any weight. Eventually you have to start losing weight. True to form, I finished my lunch at noon and by one I was feeling really hungry again. I am trying to just drink liquids and get past it.... -=db=-

Well, maybe you're right, but I do think that you have to eat to lose.  But who knows?  Good luck to us all.

Personally, I do believe in the starvation mode because our bodies are programed to not be hungry.  Our cute little fat cells are designed to be full and multiple.  Then they can do their jobs--and they do have jobs in the body.  So once you have a fat cell, it wants to be full.   And the body wants calories for everything--even breathing and sleeping.  The more I read about weight loss research and how the body works, the more fascinating I find it.  You might want to check out the books Rethinking Thin and Good Calories, Bad Calories. They have some interesting research results about why it is so difficult to loose weight and keep it off.  Now, they don't address wls, but the basic information does apply.  I have a couple of articles about each if you'd like me to email them to you. But we were in effect starving after surgery, so by this logic, wouldn't our bodies hold on to the fat rather than it burning off like it did? -=db=-
