I too am struggling with this. I am 2 years, 3 months out and I am struggling with weight gain. I was 143 this morning, and my lowest weight was 129. I just can't stop eating the carbs. I think that this is the major problem. I can eat about 2500 calories a day, no problem. I know what I need to do. I need to go back to protein only. My problem seems to be that I can eat a very large amount of food now, and I will be hungry again about an hour later after eating. For instance, for lunch I can eat an entire pot roast sandwich with mayo, and then an hour later I want to eat another one. For breakfast I eat a yogurt but 20 minutes later I am hungry again. I just feel constantly hungry. How much can you eat at once? How often do you feel hungry?

OMG! I am experiencing the very same thing. I am at my wits end. I was at my lowest 171 and now I am at 207. I GAINED three pounds last week and I was walking for 30 minutes a day, eating next to nothing and I even went on an 11 mile hike on Saturday. And I GAIINED weight!!!! I am very scared I am going to end up right back where I started. -=db=-

Hi db I noticed that we have something in common and i am also looking for help.  My lowest weight was 175 and now i am at 207 and i can't fit into any of my size 16 pants.  I am so disappointed in myself and my eating habits that i got myself back into.  I am a snacker, i constantly gorge all day on M&Ms and other not good for me foods.  I have come to the conclusion that i eat when I'm bored. I have a desk job and munch all day and in the eveining, my husband goes to bed early, around 8 p.m. and I will watch TV and eat until I go to bed around 10 or 11 p.m. I do workout - i go to water areobics 3 times a week and started using the treadmill and lifting weights the other 2 days.  I am so worried that i will end up gaining all my weight back and be a size 28 again.  It seems that I have no controll over my food choices.   As of today, I am going to write all my food intake down on paper, not eat 2 hours before bed, and make better choices.  I don't do well on the protein diet, i tried it before surgery and I didn't lose very much weight, however, my husband lost 30lbs back then and he has gained it all back. Meat just doesn't sit well in my stomach.  I still dump when I eat too fast, but not when i eat sugary foods. There are some good habits that I have - I don't drink any pop, or product with caffeine, no ice-cream, no alcohol, but that is not enough to help me get back on track. Just wanted you to know that you are not alone. Cathy

Hi Lady, First of all I want to congratulate you on your initial weight loss. Secondly, I want to remind you that you are not alone and you have come to the right place for support and encouragement.  You probably have heard this a million times.  Here goes one million one:  Back to the basics.  It won't be easy but if you can start right now with your next meal and nip this thing in the bud before 18 pounds becomes 30 becomes 42.  I am on the losing side again after a post-op weight gain of 42 pounds.  Since this past January, I have lost 29 of the 42 pounds so far and I WILL lose the rest!!  Please see my profile and be encouraged.  You can do this!!  Good luck and many blessings. Char.

You're definately not alone!  I'm another struggling with this.  I had my RNY 8/22/2005 so I'm 2 years and almost 2 months PO.  I have gained 28 lbs back and have had a hard time getting it off again.  I want to get back down to 177, I felt soooo good at that weight.  Anyway, I think I've actually gotten a hold of myself and I'm slowly loosing again (thank God!).  I have basically started with the basics again and trying to get off my behind and excersize.  I'm on a mission!!!   Take care!

This is so discouraging to me.  I'm in the same boat - I'm up about 25 lbs. from my lowest.  I know they told us from the beginning that this was just a tool but they also told us this weight was gone forever.  Eveytime I went in and got weighed after my surgery they would say, "20 lbs....gone forever - another 15 lbs....gone forever"  I believed them and now 4 yrs. after my surgery I'm 25 lbs. heavier and can't seem to get myself under control.  I know why!  I too am once again adicted to carbs - they don't make me sick, not sugar or starch.  Starch sometimes makes me sleepy but that just gives me less exercise.  I really thought after having this surgery I could worry about something else in my life besides my weight.  I'm slowly realizing that my weight is going to be a concern of mine until I die!  Sorry I don't have any suggestions - just to let you know that you're not alone.

Hi Gail,. I had to repsond to your post.  My heart goes out to you.   I am almost 2 yrs post op and trust me....I don't know it all nor do I claim to but I do know that I had put on about 8 lbs....I know....that isn't that much but if I hadn't addressed that 8 lbs it could have grown to be 80 easily.   I had to go back to the basics and the beginning with protein first and lots of it.....no bread.....starches......or sweets !!!   I also had to increase my exercise and lots of that too.   I have pulled that 8 lbs off and I weight day and night.   I won't let myself slip back into my old eating patterns of before WLS.   That would be easy to do.   I never want to become fat again.   I hope that my suggestions will help you out.   I know that is what worked for me.   I also was told it would be forever.....till I hit one year then my surgeon said that if I didn'****ch it the weight would come back on.   SO I started to become very aware of what I was doing. Hugs and blessings ~~ Vivian

Hello Everyone, I am reading your stories and I completely feel where you are coming from. However sadly I am not even a year out. At this point I don't think I will even reach my goal weight of 150. In a matter of 2 weeks I managed to gain 13lbs. After reaching my lowest weight of 168, I hit a bout of depression and managed to graze all day long. I also noticed I could take in large amounts of food and managed to do it no problem with very little discomfort. I don't eat junk food and I stay away from sugar. My current vice is oatmeal with splenda and fresh apples. I also like alot of fruit. Again normally these foods should be okay but in large amounts anything can be bad for you. I still work out but I am struggling to get the scale to move in the right direction again. I don't want to leave my house, I hate the way I look and my clothes look awful on me right now. It was so crazy to see things change to fast. I also went on the Fat Smash diet to break a plateau...I was stuck at 175. But I feel the diet is doing more harm than good, b/c I just managed to gain weight instead of losing it. This isn't the WLS experience I imagined. I feel I am more miserable than before. Like I was invited to this amazing party...only allowed to stay for a few minutes and then booted out immediately.

Hi there, You need to go back and eat like you did when you first had your surgery almost a year ago.   Go for high protein ( doesn't have to be shakes though....beef jerky is great for loosing weight ....high in protein ....low in calories ).   Step up your exercises too.   Hey...have you just recently gained weight and started exercising????  Could that weight gain be muscle?????   You do have to address questions like that too.   If it is weight gain from muscles then it is good weight gain.   Make sure that your weight goal is realistic too.  Mine wasn't.   I am between 137-140 and now at 5'1".  The BMI charts say that I should weight between 122 -132.   My surgeon said that isn't realistic for me since I work out 5 days a week real hard.   I am pleased with my size.   Everyone tells me that I am tiny....but I still don't see it at almost 2 yrs. post op.   Please get your weight under control now...you don't want to accidently let it creep up on you and find yourself at the weight that you use to be pre op WLS.   It happens to alot of people.  Good luck to you. Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian
