what vitamins do you take
I do take 2 children's chewables a day, and when I am feeling "bad" or "no energy", I take 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening - I also take B1 100mg and B12 sublingual every day, and calcium several times a day (to get in 1,500 - 500 at a time), although I usually forget the calcium and take 2 500mg before bed. -
Hint - not supposed to take calcium with other vitamins as you will malabsorb these, ideally at night, but we also only absorb 500mg at a time, so at least 2 hours after other vitamins, or some other time during the day, then at night too.
Hope this helps - some of the others on here know a LOT more about vitamins than me, this is just my regimen.

I am 4 + years out and take a multivitamin (non chewable), chewable calcium citrate, 2 ferrous sulfate (iron - 250 mg each), Vitamins C and D, b12 (sublingual), Omega 3's, and Sam-e.
It is a bit of a balancing act since some things cannot be taken with others or with certain food/beverages. Iron, for instance, can't be taken with caffeine or calcium. It seems as though I'm always popping a pill and have a supply in my purse as well as at home.
I didn't take any iron after my surgery. I was told I wouldn't have to since I'd had a hysterectomy, therefore not losing iron-rich blood monthly. Fast forward 3 1/2 years and I'm so anemic it won't even register. I had to have IV iron infusions, which weren't a big deal, but man.....I was so worn out. I feel great now and understand fully that I MUST take iron, hysterectomy or not.
I'd be interested to hear what everyone else takes.....and why they take them....and when!
I take 1 chewable Trader Joes multivitamin in the morning and in the evening
Carlsons chewable iron in the morning and the evening( last Ferritan was up to 17, due again next month)
Source Naturals B complex sub lingual once a day( yuck)
chewable calcium citrate one three times a day ( I do forget these a lot due to having to time them away from the iron)
I am almost three years out and have tried many different brands, chewable versus swallow, powder versus swallow calcium citrate,etc.. and this is the best regime I have come up with so far.

Hi everyone,
I don't take any chewables any more, there are so many other good choices out there and they are much better quality vitamins.....I also want to say that I work at a vitamin store and have learned a LOT from working there, so I think I may take a bit more than your typical WLS patient, (well, maybe not Vitalady!) so here's my daily regimen....
2 high potency multi's- 1 in the morning, one at night
2000 mg of calicium citrate- 1000 mg- morning and afternoon
90mg of Heme iron- early morning and right before bed-
(keeping a 2 hour window between iron and calicium and yes, my Ferritin level is
low, thats why I take so much.....I don't want any iron shots! Or at least thats my
goal for now)
Omega 3, 6, 9- as directed on bottle
B-Complex 100- usually 3 or 4 a day- B's are water soluble (your body does NOT
store any extra, so there is NO Chance of ODing on B's and my labs are normal
at this dose)
Vitamin C- 1500 mg- 500mg morning, afternoon and night
Vitamin D3- 800IU- 400IU with each dose of calicium (helps with the absorbtion
our calicium- make sure it's cholecalciferol or D3)
Potassium/Magnesium combo- as directed on bottle
Biotin- 5mg - once a day in morning (makes your hair grow like crazy!)
Silica- 1000mg- 1- 500mg tablet-twice a day- morning and night (sometimes called
Horsetail Extract, makes your hair strong!!)
Probiotic- these are good bacteria for your body- very important! I usually take
the strong kind, about 10 billion bacteria per dose- just read the labels and get
one that has 10 or so different kinds of bacteria per dose
Protein!!!! Yes, I still try and get a couple of protein shakes down every day....I've
also started to use the amino acid tablets (thats what in the protein shakes,
amino acids or rather thats what protein IS- so if I can't stomach one more
shake that day, you know what I mean!!! I will take the amino's in tablet form.
Less potent, but easy to carry around....)
And in answer to your question regarding the safety of all of this.......the only vitamins that you have to watch out for are fat-soluble vitamins. Which are vitamin A, E and D. Also you can get too much iron, which is not good either and the upper limit for magnesium is 600 mg per day, after that, taking more is NOT a good idea.
Fat soluble vitamins are the ones that your body stores. Yes, you can take too much of A or E or iron ( and there might be one or two others that I've forgotten) but thats why it's important (in my humble opinion!) that we buy our vitamins from a reputable source, that has staff on board, that is there to help you and answer your questions!
Please keep in mind that this is MY daily regimen, that I've developed over the last three years, while using my labs as a guide for all dosages.
I hope this helps you out!
Hi Lyn:
Like you I take many vits and sups. I have a question for you .. I noticed you take 1000 mg. of calcium at a time. Can we absorb that? Someone, and I don't remember whether it was my Nut or not told me to only do 500 mg. at a time? Can you shed any light on this? I am 15 months post op and my levels are doing very well, except high b12.
Thanks in advance for any info you can help.
Jeanne
