I have a nail fungus from wearing fake nails.  Any ideas how to get it well fast??  I love the acrylic nails and do not want to stop wearing them completely. Patricia

There are some over the counter antifungal med's you can try, but the best bet is to go to a dermatologist to find out what fungus you have and get the right med to fight it.  I understnad that treatment for fungal infections may take quite a long time to treat.  Also, make sure your maniculist is using very strict cleaning procedures or change manicurists.  Good luck.

My dermatologist is a pain to get an appointment with, but I intend to call my primary this morning to see if I can get some help from him.  I read on WebMd that Lamisil is a good antibotic, but it is expensive and it has to be monitored (I think.)  I think that even the generic is not cheap. Thanks for the advice.  I entend to change nail shops.

I had one nail fungus when I had my nails done years ago. The girl who did them suggested that I soak my fingertips in a bleach solution (I think it was half and half if I remember right) and take the nails off for a while. That's what I did. Soon after that I had them removed and haven't had them put back on...Looking to get them again pretty soon.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Dawn thanks for the bleach idea.  It sounds like a good idea.  I have an appointment tomorrow with my primary.  I will let you know what he says.  I love the acryilic nails.  They make me feel pretty. i wore the kind you buy and glue on yourself many years ago.  After a couple of years, I got a fungus and quit wearing them.  I do not remember what I did to get rid of it besides taking off the nails.  I went without them for several years, but started going to the shop and getting them put on several years ago without any problems.  Really it is probably my fault.  I got where I would glue them back on if one came off and would let them go too long between fixing and getting new sets.    The girl had warn me about doing that kind of stuff.  I guess, I am paying for being cheap. Good luck if you deside to try them again Patricia

Yeah, I used to try and glue them back on myself too. I would get nail bed separation and try to glue them like the girl did. I'd put a drop and roll it back down...Just like she would do but it never worked the way it did when she did it...Ah well. I want to get them again real soon. I bet their alot more expensive now than they were years ago. I used to love the way my rings looked on my hands back then. But after a while my hands got so chubby that it wasn't worth drawing attention to my little pudgy hooves...Now I can picture my hands with nails and rings. I even bought some really cute rings on ebay. A size 7 because I couldn't imagine that my fingers could be that tiny..Well, 7 is too big. Size 6 is now in order. Big wow from size 8+...Those fall off now.  Sorry. I didn't mean to hijack the topic from nails to rings and jewelry...Pretty hands deserve both!

Dawn I saw my primary today and he prescribed the generic drug for lamisil.  He says it should clear up in a couple of months.  He said we had caught it in the early stages.  Thanks Goodness. I like pretty nails, bracelets and rings.  Dr said not to wear the acrylic nails for a couple of months, but that it is okay to wear nailpolish. I was wearing 8+ rings before, too.  I have had ring 'sizers' put on my better rings at the jewelry store and am still wearing them. Some of my other rings have to be worn on my index  or middle fingers  now.  I know a girl who wears her wedding rings on her thumb.  LOL i think I will check out ebay for some new rings.  Take care and Good luck to you on your journey. Thanks for the reply.  The Vicks sounds like a good idea.  I hope they will be better soon.  I sure miss wearing the nails.

I have had acrylic nails for over 7 years now and hopefully never have to go with out....I have never had a problem...I believe it is because I go every 2 weeks like clockwork and if anything breaks or lifts I immediately go to the shop and have them do the repair....the cost is cheap here in Baltimore County...Mosts shops are $20 to put them on and $12 every 2 weeks for fill ins....reapirs are usually $2. I also check how the staff handles the equipment and will ask for new files etc....If the shop isnt supper clean I go someehere else Good Luck because I hear you can lose fingers from soem types of fungus.
