its been 9 months and i still weight the same 164, i would love to drop to a 155-160 and i will be fine, but its just not letting go, i do track my food at sparkpeople.com(protein first), take my vitamins and i do work out and drink atleast 50oz of water a day, but nothing. now this is the thing i have been told to increase my calorie. intake which now is abit of a huge task, i average about 900-1000( with a big fight) at time i snack on a bag of chips because my calorie intake at the end of the day is so low...  the only problem i have with increasing my calories is; in my mind this equation increasing cal.= weight gain is hanging high with lights flashing a reminder of my past of how i kidnapped Mr. excessive calorie and ran off with him to 285 pounds. the fear of gaining is always there and i want to definetly stay health tht is my number one thing. please help!

I think taking in more calories is a good idea, but I would avoid using chips to up them. You can always try adding a protein shake or my favorite snack of peanut butter on banana! I would also increase you fluid intake. 50oz is good, but you should be shooting for at least 64oz (I prefer to hit 80- 100oz a day).  I share in your worst fear of gaining weight, but remember that more calories = weightgain is not always true. If you body is in starvation mode then it will hold onto everything and that scale won't budge one inch!! Give it a try, watch your scale closely and see what happens. If you notice a small gain then you can always cut back again. For me at 2yr 8mth out, I eat around 1800cal to maintain and drop back to 1400cal if I'm trying to lose a few.  You can also try to change up your workout routine and see if that sparks a loss. GoodLuck!!!

Linda, I'm not sure of your surgery date? There are many of us here at the Grad's board that post eating between 1600 and 2000 cal per day with no problems. My surgery is fine. The 2oz pouch and limited quantities of food are not supposed to last forever~just in the earlier stages when rapid weightloss is taking place. Also, I do 6 mini meals per day instead of 3 large meals so I generally only eat 1 to 1 1/2C of food at a sitting. My capacity is no where near what it was pre op, but also  no where near where it was as a new post op, so at almost 3yrs out I can eat like a normal person. Of course I am careful to eat healthy foods and skip the junk (most of the time). I also keep a very high level of activity going on a daily basis so my body needs that fuel to burn otherwise when I drop back my calories too far I go into starvation mode.

I agree, but would say to add another no carb protein drink (no milk or bananas), get your 64 oz of water.

Adding chips ups the calories, but only EMPTY ones, so apply directly to hips or thighs, as needed.

So, add calories that have a place to go, muscles, heart, brain. Protein is always used!

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

If you want some more specific suggestions, you may want to repost this in the Diet & Nutrition forum.  There are 4 registered dieticians on staff that will answer this type of question for you.  They may need a little more detail about what you are eating and how much you are exercising to be able to give you some specific guidance.  But they've been offering some really helpful suggestions about these types of issues, and perhaps they can help you as well.   Good luck on your continuing journey -  Kellie
