Advice about my revision
As many of you know I am having a revision in 2 weeks to the the RNY. I was wondering if any of you think it would be a good idea to see if I should have a band or ring placed over the pouch? Other than the potential for complications from this surgery my 2nd greatest fear is regain. I want to counteract this problem before it begins. I know the best way to fight regain is through diet change. I plan to make these changes, however, being human and having the sugar addiction I fear falling off the wagon and I think I need a safety net. I really believe that if I fail this revision in years to come it will emotionally kill me. I constantly beat myself up for failing the first surgery.

If your only choice is to have the RNY over somethingl ike the Duodenal switch...then I'd ask the surgeon to make it a distal RNY with a ring. Although, you might not be happy with the ring long term. It can eat into your stomach....and even 5 or 6 years out you will have SUPER restriction...which may sound "ideal" but form what I've read from people living with it, it might mean that even in 2 or 4 or more years you'll be restricted to eating 1 or 2 bites of food and being full.
I personally coudln't live like that.....but that might be something you have to consider.

I don't know if a distal RNY would be the best option for me. Compared to alot of people I am considered a "light weight" I'm 216 pounds at 5'5. Although, I want to loose weight and keep the weight off. I do not want to become or look anorexic looking. I really just dread the issue of a few years down the road having to go on a "diet". I am one of those people who gain weight easily and can't live on a 1200 calorie a day diet.
Chances are, you are not being offered a true distal RNY, as measured by common channel. More likely, it is a long limb proximal.
Bear in mind, that even with my radical distal, I can still gain wt. Sure, when I FIRST lost wt, I looked like a punctured balloon, but being too thin is NOT an issue now.
And I would vote AGAINST a ring. I see too many erosions, endless vomiting and the accompanying nutritional deficiencies. Especially in revision, the tissue is compromised already, so the chances of ring or band erosion is increased.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
