Two Years Out w/ Sudden Change in Bowels??

Hey fellow grads, Haven't had to ask a question in a long time, but hoping for some insight.  Had RNY and gall bladder out at same time two years ago today (yay me).  Basically I've been constipated ever since, for the most part.  Suddenly within the past few days I am making up for lost time and then some.  I've had diarrhea for the first time post-op and it starts to get better and then wham...  Of course I'm thinking maybe just a virus, something I ate etc.   Just wondering if anyone has developed drastic bowel changes this far out and/or sudden lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, what have you? Thanks for any input, Holly

Sorry I can't give you any advice on this subject. I had my Gall Bladder out almost 30 years ago and I had pretty much chronic diarrhea after that, until I found out that I have Celiac's Disease (a sensitivity to wheat). When I cut wheat out of my diet  my diarrhea pretty much cleared up. Now, since WLS, I've been VERY constipated. I have to take 2 peri-colace  EVERY night to stay regular. It might not hurt to check with a physician just to be sure. Sometimes drastic sudden changes can be serious. Let us know and best wishes!! Hugs,  Piggybabe

Thanks for the feedback, Piggybabe. Like you I have been chronically constipated since WLS, so I was surprised when this started!  I'll call the doc if it keeps up. Best, Holly

I was the regular gal for the most part.  Now I have been experiencing constipation problems. I have been on pain meds and I assume that they are the culprit to my drastic change.  Have you changed any meds you were doing, foods, etc?  It could be a virus.  I would call your Dr to make sure its nothing serious.  Good luck Debbie

In my case, this happened and I thought the same thing until I started writing down what I was eating and realized I had added way to many carbs to my diet and I think it was a form of dumping. It went on for three weeks before I figured it out and I was up at 2 in the morning almost every night. When I cut out the carbs it went away. Might not be you, but worth checking. Sara
