Getting there.... damn it!

As of this morning I have lost all but two of the twenty pounds I regained from my lowest postop weight last year.  I've done the up and down thing for months.  Now I am "only" 20 pounds from my surgeon's "ideal weight" goal.  Has anyone else noticed that the last damn 20 pounds are harded to lose than the first 100 pounds or more?  I hate to whine but this is driving me crazy.  I get to within a hair's breath of where I want to be and than lose my mind and give in to the sugar demons and gain again. I'm just venting... OK, I'm whining... anybody else in the same boat?

OH BOY DO I KNKOW THAT BOAT!!!! I was stuck at 200 pounds for over a year...didnt seem to matter what I did...actually only lost weight when I ate junk...Im a self diagnosed sugar/flour addict...meaning cookies & cakes. Seems that I was never eating enough calories so when I "snuck" junk it upped my calories enough to get me out of starvation mode. Now I dont believe that will be a lasting effect because junk is junk, I just gotta remember to keep my calories up.  I finally got under 200 in June and have managed to stay there...my official 4 year weigh in yesterday i was 196...I still see my surgeon every month and only use his scale as my official weight. I am still aiming at 180 which is my goal because it is exactly half of my pre op weight. My surgeon says I am at 75% and a perfect success...I just want that number soooooo Bad. Good luck and keep working...I am sure you will make your goal. Diana RNY 9/17/03 360/196/still aiming at 180

My name is Lynda and I'm a sugar addict.  They say knowing your flaws is half the battles.  I love cookies and cheap chewy candy like Tootsie Rolls and Royal caramels.  I can turn down an expensive truffle and cake and pie doesn't tempt me much but man, let me look at an old fashioned grandma candy dish and I'm lost.  This time of year is a challenge because of all the Halloween offerings.  Bags full of my favorites at a discount price! Good luck to you.

Boy can I relate to the sugar addict part!! I am sensitive to anything with wheat in it so that keeps me from eating cookies, cakes, pie, donuts, etc. But BOY can I eat chocolate. And I too love the chewy candy like Tootsie Rolls, Bit o'Honey, and my REAL favorite Mary Janes. I also know what you mean about Halloween candy at "bargain" prices. I always call Halloween all the way through Easter the "chocolate season" because every holiday in that span has chocolate (and other) goodies. Of course you can still buy Hershey Bars, etc. during the summer, but there is just "something special" about a Reese's Pnut Butter Cup shaped like a ghost, or a turkey, or a tree, or an egg, etc etc!!   LOL                 HUgs,   Piggy

I looked at your profile, and I think you look wonderful. It may take a while to get rid of that last 20 pounds, but I bet you'll do it. People tell me how great I am because I've lost so much weight, but I tell them to hold off with their praise for a few more years. It's been pretty easy to lose, but I'm sure keeping it off will be more of a challenge. You've done really well.

Thank you for the complement.  People have been telling me I don't need to lose any more but I want to reach that "ideal".  It simply frustrates and amazes me that the last twenty seem more of a challenge than my first 100 pound loss.  I guess everything is relative.

We weigh almost the same but I'm sure it looks better stretched out farther on your four inches.  I will NEVER forget the first time I went to a gynocologist (30 years ago!) and the man told me "it's not that you're fat, you're simply six inches too short for your weight.  I can laugh now but it hurt my feelings so much back then.  AND I weighed about ten pounds LESS than I do today!!

Lynda, I noticed that we had the same surgeon and weigh almost exactly the same. Unfortunately, we both also have a sugar addiction. Mine is mostly to Now and Laters and jaw breakers. I have memorized the pick a mix hard candy code at Wegmans (79952). Dr O'Malley never gave me a goal weight. How did you get one? Congratulations on losing the 20 regain = almost. It is definitely an inspiration. Thank you.

Starting weight: 262   Current weight: 152.2 Goal weight: under 155 - I keep going over - UGH!!!

When I first saw Dr O'Malley, he said the "ideal" weight for my height and age was 138 but he didn't expect me to reach it as a goal.  When I saw him for my six month post op visit, he said losing and keeping off 75% of your excess weight was how he measured "success".  For me that was when I lost about 77 pounds and weighed 185.  I haven't had any trouble keeping myself past that measure of success.  Thank God.
