I was always told that you could NEVER warm protein shakes.  I LOVE to have HOT/WARM COCO for breakfast.  Could I do this with my morning protein shake????????? The way I make my reg SF hot coco is water for 1:30 in the microwave and that put the water temp about 140-160. Is this to hot for the protien. Thanks,  Robin

I tried it once before and, let me tell you, it was the nastiest thing I had ever put in my mouth!!!  Not only was it terrible tasting, it was like little peices of candlewax all in my cup!!  I even mixed it with half cold water first then added ho****er with it and it just didn't do right.  Maybe it was the particular kind I was using (Isopure Dutch Chocolate).

If you mix the powder first with a very small amount of tap water and stir it to make a smooth paste and then add ho****er (NOT boiling) most brands of powder will do pretty good. There is a Hot Cocoa Mix that is available from this  website :  http://www.drwells.info/Default.htm I personally prefer the Amaretto Hot Cocoa. It is delicious. It is a little expensive, but not compared to most of the other mixes we buy.  This is the cheapest I've found this particular mix and I am THE BARGAIN HUNTER!!!  Bariatric Eating also has mixes that make hot chocolate and they tell you how to mix it on their website.  Hope this helps. Yes, 140-160 is too hot for the protein.  I seem to remember that the one protein company said anything over 130 would cause it to clump.  It wouldn't breakdown the protein (make it not absorbable) but it would not be smooth.  Ho****er yes, boiling water no. Kathy

I  mix my Body Fortress chocolate protein with very warm tap water.  It dissolves completely and is pretty good.  It's not as hot as "real" hot chocolate, but it satisfies the craving!   DeeAnn R

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my hot protein. I drink my protein as hot cocoa every single day, and I look forward to it.  I often have a second serving in the evening, as I find it relaxes me, and satisfies cravings for nightime munchies.  I am a firm believer that my hot protein is the secret to my success.  At almost 2 1/2 years postop, I am at a very stable, healthy weight.  I feel wonderful physically.  This is starting to sound like an infomercial, but I am always a bit sad when I read others post about how they hate their protein, when I love mine so much. Here's what I do.  It does require some practice to get it just right, so don't despair if the first few times you make it, it is lumpy. I use IDS Belgian Chocolate.  I know it is available from Bariatric Eating or Fitness First USA.  I buy it in the 5 lb conainers, as I go through so much of it. I always add sifted baking cocoa to the dry protein powder.  I mix both Nestle's Special Dark cocoa, which is a Dutch processed cocoa, and Ghiradelli's cocoa.  Baking cocoa does not contain sugar, and is relatively low calorie.  It adds a tremendous rich chocolate flavor to the protein.  I would recommend adding cocoa to any protein powder if you want a richer chocolate flavor.  I do sift the cocoa though, as it comes out of the container a bit lumpy.  How much cocoa powder you add is a personal preference, I add alot. I use a large mug, 20 ounce size, as it is easier to mix.  I also use two scoops at a time, which because it has cocoa powder already in it, I don't know exactly how much protein is there, but probably 1 1/2 scoops of protein with the rest being cocoa. I add a small amount of tap water to the powder, enough to wet the protein into a smooth paste.  I use a fork to mix the paste, stirring vigorously to make it very smooth.  I continue to add cool tap water until the paste is a smooth, very thick liquid.  At this point I add SF DaVinci syrup, usually Toasted Marshmallow or Caramel or Praline.  French Vanilla and Raspberry are also really good. Finally, I add boiling water.  Yes, I said boiling water.  I add it very slowly, stirring constantly.  This is the tricky part, making sure there has been enough of the cool tap water first.  I have "cooked" the protein a couple of times.  You will quickly know if you've done this, as you seen clumps of protein that looks like cottage cheese.  At this point, it goes down the sink.  But  my cocoa ends up being very hot and delicious. LIke I said, it takes some practice to get the ratio of cool/boiling water right, as well as how much to stir to mix it well.  But I can almost guarentee a great cup of protein using the IDS and baking cocoa together.  I have tried a few other protein brands, and I don't like them.  I worry that someday IDS will go out of business, and then I'll be really sad. PM me if you have any questions about this. It works for me.  I have lost and maintained a 220 pound weight loss. Debra M. usual disclaimers here, no affiliation with any of the mentioned companies.  I wish, then I wouldn't have to pay for this stuff all the time.  I just ordered three  5lb kegs of the protein powder!

I use American Sports Nutrition protein powder and I too worry that it will go off the market. I too "live and die" by my protein drinks. I will be 3 years out the end of this month and am totally convinced that my success is based on my protein drinks.  I often add baking cocoa to my cold drink, but never thought about adding it to my hot chocolate. Can we say   Duh!!!?   Actually, I've used an Amaretto Cocoa Mix for the past 2 1/2 years and have just recently started using my regular protein powder hot. I prefer the Amaretto, but the price was getting to me!!! Thanks for the tips. I'm sure that it helped others!!  Hugs,   Piggybabe

I use coffee pot ho****er or water from my Insta Hot (some are ok, some are not). If the protein clumps or separates, you've lost it al.

By using warm water, I know a lose a little of the value, but I like Pure Whey Stack + IDS cinnamon vanilla in my cup of coffee first thing. Then I like it just in warm water later.
