Severe gas pains, I think

Last Wednesday I had some chili from Wendys and got an terrible upset stomach.  Thought maybe I was starting to experience a little virus, since a coworker had the same feelings.  By evening I was feeling much better.   Well, yesterday for lunch I ate a taco salad from Wendys, again had chili.  I got a real full feeling and felt miserable.  I walked around the building to try work off what I had ate, my stomach felt upset at first like it did Wednesday.  Well about thirty minutes later I was still feeling bad but had a real sharp pain in my chest right around my breast bone.  Thought it was gas, all afternoon I felt bad.  In some ways if felt like a pulled musle but other times it was a sharp pain.  As the day went on I went about my usual activities but still felt this uncomfortable feeling in my chest.  Around 11 last night I really felt like I had trapped gas, kind of the experience I had after surgery.  It was in my shoulders and all over.  I went on to bed and I feel fine now.   Has anyone had this kind of feeling?  I have never had trouble with Wendy's chili, eat it frequently.  I think it is kind of strange the last two times I have eaten it I have felt bad.

I don't know what Wendy's standards are on how long they'll hold a batch of chili, but this time of year in Louisiana, it's not really what most people consider chili weather. Both servings you had this week could have been from the same batch that is going bad. Or, it could be a gall bladder attack and the chili is what is setting it off. If it were me, I'd be putting in a call to the local health department to have them inspect and another one to your surgeon to discuss how you felt and see if he thinks you need additional testing. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jennifer,  I know it is not my gallbladder since I had that out 5 years ago.  I usually will get a side salad from there but this week I was in the mood for something else, hence the chili.  I think I may call them and ask about how long they keep the chili.  I am feeling ok today, but yesterday it sure felt like when I had the gas pains after my surgery.  If I have it again I will call my surgeon or PCP and go from there.   Are you getting excited?  I know I am excited for you.... Well, you take care and I am hoping this is a one time thing. Hugs,  Jodi

I'd be more excited if I knew Thursday were a sure thing. I went for my pre-ops this past Thursday and I have a completely asymptomatic UTI. So, I'm on antibiotics and have to go back on Monday. If it's not cleared up on Monday, I'm postponed. The next time I've got enough weeks in town to recover is after 11/8, so I'm going to be disappointed to start the wait all over again.

Oh girl, I am so sorry. I sure hope you are better by Monday but you also don't want to go into the surgery with any kind of infection.  I know I dealt with that with my WLS and ended up having to wait 4 weeks.  I do know how you feel.  It seemed like I could not get excited for the second go around I just knew something would stand in the way.... Will be keeping you in my thoughts... By the way no pains today.  I think it was something about the chili and I will leave that well enough alone... Hugs,  Jodi

My WLS was postponed too. Four months. That's probably why I'm not letting it get to me so much. I know if it's not right, then it's not right and to just keep plugging along. I'd just rather not spend another holiday season recovering from surgery if I can help it.

Hi there, It sounds like it could be an ulcer that is reacting to the chili. Or they have changed to a different chili that has something in it that doesn't agree with you. I would call your doctor and see what he thinks. Sometimes restaurants change things due to pricing from one or the other distributors. Hope you are ok! Diona

I woke up the next morning feeling fine, have had no trouble since.  I think I will not try the chili again.  I am sure it had something to do with it.   It was a strange feeling but I really think it was more gas than anything and since I have had no other problems, I will chaulk it up to that.  Thanks for your response.  Jodi
