appetite four years out
Try to get in more protein - it fills us up until the next meal and we're not so hungry in between. Make sure you're only getting in your meals per day - limit snacking. And carbs will make us hungry sooner and we'll crave carbs again. A good protein forward meal plan is the best way to get rid of hunger. Many post ops don't feel physical hunger. What we do feel is head hunger - try to figure out which yours is. Get the ten pounds off now before they become 20. Cut back on portions, lots of water and lots of exercise will allow you to drop that ten fairly quickly. ONce the scale starts moving it's incentive to keep going. Make sure you're not getting back into old habits - drinking with meals, snacking, more per portion than you should be. Mark down what you're taking in per day - on a website like fitday.com and see where you are - it's easier to find out where you can cut back if it's all out in front of you.
Absolutely - 6 years out, here and I love that I have an appetite now. I FEEL LIKE A NORMAL PERSON! Now is when all the practicing of making (mostly) good decisions immediately post-op - (before having an appetite) will come into play - and will guide you for the rest of your life as a NORMAL person who gets hungry. How cool is that?
The thing is - yes you've had a 10 lb gain. At 3 years you could have gained MOST of it back - GOOD FOR YOU! You're controlling yourself more than you realize!
FOR sure - Check your habits - as suggested above--- by really looking at what you are doing REGULARLY. My worst one that would cause gain would be "mindless snacking" OR sipping with my meals. Period. With those in check I maintain - now for 3.5 years.
YOU CAN DO THIS THING!
Assess & make the adjustments. Know that you are feeling hunger like most everyone else on the planet - the difference is (from before) you know how to FEED to FUEL! dense protein. hydrate between meals. YOU KNOW!
Good job!
