Hi everyone, The answer to my question is probably somewhere here, I'm just not seeing it... I had open RNY June 2003, I have lost 160 lbs, no complications until now....I have a gigantic hernia near my incision line and I need it repaired ASAP, I also want a TT, but I'm still saving for it...I was informed that insurance will foot the bill for both, is that true, and how do I go about making this happen? I spoke to two Drs who said NO, I was misinformed. I have BCBS PPO.....

I would ask your insurance company. They would know. Often a Hernia is covered if it might be a complication to your health. TT's are usually only covered if there is a rash, or health issue that necessitates a Tummy Tuck, I'd check with your insurance company to see the guidelines. If your Doc says no..then go see a different doc. :) jess
My journey is successful, only because I remember what road I was on when I started it..and my determination to never go back to that road will keep me going in the right direction.

You probably have to have your surgeon write that your hernia must be fixed and that your tt is reconstructive necessary because of...... rashes, sores, etc. I still have 120 lbs. to go but am having a panni with a hernia repair in January.  My surgeon is almost 100% sure that my insurance will cover it.  My cir****tances are different as I have lymphedema is my leg and groin and the panni is necessary to help the lymph circulation.  Have your surgeon (GBS) and your PCP help you. Well, mine was covered a couple of years ago.  It sounds like you have almost exactly what mine was.  My hernia was quite extensive and required a mesh be put in place to hold everything together.  My insurance covered it all.  And it will be their call but the doctor will have to write it up carefully, indicating that it is all required. Good luck to you! Sheryl

I had a hernia herniasideview.jpg image by Ready4Achange  I talked to the surgeon . He suggested doing it lap but I said I was hoping to have some "taken off" so I talked to the ps , she took a picture of my panni and submitted it to the ins company. Along with a letter from my pcp about rashes I was ok'd . ( I have Aetna PPO)  You may want to check with your ins company. I had the surgery Feb of this year. The surgeon said the hernia was so big he had to wire it to my ribcage. I feel better now that it has been fixed. You should call the ins company and ask them. Hope you get good news.
