My cousin, who's a RN, has showed concern that I may be losing weight too fast. I don't mean to sound negative, but I wanted to know if I was and if so, what do I do? I see my surgeon in a week but its killing me not knowing something now. I had surgery on 07/18/07 at 252, currently I am 210.

Don't worry about it.  You are supposed to lose weight fast with this surgery.  It will slow down soon.  Good job on the weight loss.  I know you feel better.

That's about how I did right after my RNY. I lost 40 pounds in 6 weeks, and the next 6 weeks I lost 20 more pounds. Then it really slowed down!

You are absolutley not losing too fast. That is about the rate that I lost. I had surgery at 242lbs, and was down almost 50lbs within my first 3 months. Your'e right on track. I know people might get concerned, but just be sure to assure them that you are in a surgeons care and you are right on target for your procedure. I had to deal w/ those comments from my in-laws, of course they were speaking out of jealousy..and not concern and none of them have a medical education of any sort. I don't know your cousin, or what your relationship is with her/him.. but I hope that her concern is just geniune concern, because my husbands mother and sister... not concern.. straight green jealousy that has escalated to a point where I cannot even see them anymore because I'm skinnier than both of them. I've been called "malnourished, anorexic, bulemic, skin n' bones and rail-thin; by them... and none of that in a flattering way, and always in an environment where people are around...like restraunts, or malls..and loudly..its just embarrasing. I don't even look remotely unhealthy. Please dont' let anyone undermine your success. If your surgeon or PCP says you are losing too fast..thats one thing..but just keep going like you are until told otherwise. :) You are doing fabulous!! :)  jess

Hi Tamara, Some will lose weight quickly and some will lose more slowly. Sounds like you are doing just fine to me.  I lost 41lbs by the time I was 4 weeks post op. I was down 100lbs by about my 4th month post op. By about 8 mos post op I was down 150lbs and down 200lbs by my 1yr mark. I did start out at 407 the day of surgery (418lb a week before my surgery). My surgeon never told me that I was losing to fast, in fact he was pretty happy with my progress. I agree with the poster that said to let the worry warts know that you are under surgeon's care and try not to worry about the rest....YOU ARE DOING GREAT!
