Update on getting back control..

I just thought I would update everybody on the topic I posted a few days ago.  After a 15 pound weight gain, I just couldn't get my butt in gear and get back on track.  No matter what, I failed.  Anyhow, I went and bought a food scale and started weighing my food again.  I laid off the carbs and got my water in daily.  I also started chewing my food very slowly.  (these are all the things I started doing from the beginning, but somewhere along the way I quit doing them)  Today makes the 4th day and I have already lost 5 WHOLE POUNDS!!  I can't believe it.  The hardest part was finding a way to gain back control over the food demon.  I was eating a lot more and eating a lot of junk.  After posting on this board, I was able to learn a few tips and find encouragement to get myself back on track.  I am so proud of myself for making it past the first 3 horrible days.  It actually takes that long to get the evil carbs out of my system.  Now, I am not craving them.  I want to thank everybody for their prayers, tips, and encouragement.  I still have 10 more pounds to go, but I will do it!!  Also, I really never got to goal weight.  I got 25 pounds away from goal.  This time, I will make it all the way!!

Wow, congrats to you! This is very encouraging news and I'm happy that you shared this here. I'll be 14 mos. post op tomorrow and my biggest fear is regain and what I will do about it should it happen to me. I've seen lots of people struggle that are yrs out but this really helps to see that all is not lost and that you can lose again even after a regain! Those other 10lbs will soon be gone too, keep up the good work!

Way to go! I noticed that you said that you started weighing your food again. How many ounces do you eat now? I was to to measure my food by volume, but I would like to use a food scale instead.

I have been allowing myself to have about 3-4 ounces of meat and 2-3 ounces of vegetables per meal.  If I don't have any vegetables, I let myself have about about 6 ounces of lean meat.  My stomach can hold a lot more than that.  However, since these last few days that I have cut back on the quantity, I feel myself actually getting full off of what I am eating.  I think the main key is taking small bites and eating extremely slow.  This morning for breakfast, I took a slice of block cheese and wrapped it in a peice of sandwich meat (ham) and ate it really slow on my way to work.  I am extremely full right now and it was only about 2 ounces of food.  Also, protein fills me up a lot more.  If I was eating potato chips or junk like that, I could eat a WHOLE lot!!

I'm also proud of you! Please keep posting. I'm a little more than a year out and I've had some control issues in the past (like lots of us here), and it helps to read about your success.
