I didn't cook the oatmeal at all. I just mix the dry oatmeal, peanut butter, protein all together. I pressed mine into a pan instead of rolling into balls. Then I put it in the fridge. But it was difficult to cut, so I should have just rolled them.  ENJOY

When I made them, I too put them into a pan.  If you cut them before putting in the fridge, they come out fine.  Not sure if this is a good thing or not, but to me it felt more like eating a cookie having them like flap jacks.

I use a bit of sugar free Pancake Syrup, to make it more moist and workable,,then form them into balls and put in a covered container in the fridge. Blessings Betsy

I made protein balls for the first time yesterday and they were yummy....I forgot to put the splenda in and even still they were good.  I used GNC caramal chocolate protein.  I like the idea of putting a little sugar free syrup to make them moist, they were a little dry but none the less good.  Oh and I am not a big fan of peanut butter....

OK ladies, I've been checking out the accountability posts here lately. I see protein balls listed a lot on there. I keep asking myself, "what the heck are protein balls?" I've never heard of them. I see now that it contains oatmeal, splenda, peanut butter, and protein powder. How do I make them? How much of each? Please enlighten me! Ronnie

The recipe I found yesterday called for  1 cup of peanut butter  1 cup of protien powder, I used GNC chocolate caramel 1 cup of oatmeal, not instant splenda to taste heat peanut butter in microwave, mix in oatmeal and protein powder and splenda.  Roll into balls and refridgerate.  They are really filling and I have really enjoyed them.  I forgot to put the splenda in mine.  I tried 1/2 cup of each just to make sure I would like them since I am not a big peanut butter fan.  I saw a post that someone added sugar free syrup to make them moist, I think I will try that next time since they were a little dry but even still they were yummy.

I use the recipe that dirtbikemom wrote, except that I never microwave the pb (although it no doubt helps to mix it if you just nuke it slightly--but it's not really necessary to the recipe).  I use choc. protein powder.  Most people note that they use the old-fashioned oatmeal, but I always use the "quick--1 minute" oatmeal and they work just fine--I have no idea why the others are specified.  I can't remember how much splenda I use--haven't made them for quite awhile--but I probably used at least 1/2 c., as I like the sweetness. I love these and have to pace myself when I do make them.

Always,
Jo

I read somewhere that the reason for the "old fashioned" oats is that it takes longer for your body to process them,,and so they are considered a "goodcarb" in that it doesnt effect your natural insulin, and keeps you satisfied longer. I think it was in the South Beach Diet book,,,  Personally, I use either or.....they are still yummy!!! Blessings Betsy
