Michelle - how does the D 25-OH compare to the D 25, hydroxy when you are watching levels?   My lab keeps running something other than what was ordered for my D.  I have gotten D 1,25 di-hydroxy on the last set, previous set was D 25-OH, and before that D 25 hydroxy (which is what my doc ordered).  This time I will be asking them to make sure it is what was ordered and if it comes through wrong we will make them do it again.  I don't know how to compare results when the labs are not the same.

It's misleading for us. We're only interested in the D, 25, not the 1,25. That's sort of in trtansit, and we're only interested in the final reasting place, so to speak.

So is the D 25 OH combining both results (D 25 hyrdoxy and the D 1,25 di-hydroxy)?

Eh? Alll I see or want to see is the D 25 OH

maybe i need to get up and go look at it again.

had PT today and they hurt me a lot. kinda grumpy. then relaized that the booboo on my elbow from the fall (5/30) has nothealed so popped into my PCP and had her poke around to see if I'm carrying a hunk of road as a souvenir, since the urgent care didn't clean it, rememeber?

I'm going to go kick back with a protein and feel sorry for myself.

Yes, I remember the horrid care from Urgent Care.  Did your doc find anything in there.  On the elbow, is there a bone fragment floating in there?  I hope not and that it heals quickly. I pulled my labs with the D 25 OH done in December 2006.  The lab has it labeled as follows: Vitamin D, 25 hydroxy, LC/MS/MS Vitamin D, 25-OH Total 34   (range 20-100) Vitamin D, 25-OH , D3   30 Vitamin D, 25-OH, D2     4 The last labs done June 2007  they only did the D 1,.25 di-hydroxy result 80High  (range 15-60) Lab done June 2006 was D 25, hydroxy  22 (range 20-100) So, what I think I am seeing is that they are now reporting the D 25, hydroxy broken down more into the OH categories.  I have no idea how to compare the di-hydroxy results so have pretty much ignored those.   I am taking 50,000 IU dry D3 once a week in addition to the 2400 IU daily with my A (I am changing to independent A and independent D supplements on the next caddy load).  I also take 2500 - 3000 mg calcium citrate with the D daily.   I was taking the 50K twice a week, but am waiting until the next test the end of this month to get a better reading so that I know how I am doing in this regard.  I did lose bone density on my recent Dexa and know the D factor is probably a major player in that.  I still have a spine T-score of 1.0 and a hip T-Score of 1.5.  I have been declining steadily since surgery (except last year I was up).    Hope you feel better soon.  How is the arm doing over all?  I know it is such a long and painful recovery from such a break.

Definitely on the outside. It was a lumpy thing, and next to it you can see a bit of black under the skin, looking suspiciously like asphalt to me. The break was way up at the top, right under the roundy part of the shoulder. or actually thru the roundy part. I suspect I landed ON the elbow and slid, but the break happened either when he pulled my arm outward/forward OR when I hit the ground. Wish I had film to see if I bounced!

I've never seen them broken down so finely.

The D, 25, OH is the one we want to see at about 60-70. I'm thinking 50K a week isn't going to cut it. That's not even 10k per day. And I don't count the D in all multi's and calciums. For our discussion, only the separate D.

The D 1,25 can change day to day. So, there's no point in trying to track it. The one that is talking about how much D is really living on board is the D, 25 OH. It is telling us how much is available to the PTH to help direct incoming calcium, after enough D has been meted out to the soft tissue, muscles, joints, mood and so on.

The D 1,25 could refer to what you swallowed yesterday, so if it was the day after your 50K, it's like the day after a b12 shot. Means nothing.

Rachael, I can't really add much to what Vitalady has said about your nutritional values; however, C Reactive Protein is a marker for inflammation and heart disease. The fact that yours is low is excellent!! Best of luck! Vickie

How often are your B12 shots?   As for C-Reactive Protein... normal is normal.  It is a sign of inflammation if it is elevated such as one would find with arthritis, autoimmune issues or irritable bowel syndrome.  Dropping means less inflammation most likely. Kathy
