Hi! Things will go very slowly at this stage, but things WILL get better and you WILL feel normal again. I can remember saying that so many times in the beginning~"when will I feel normal again?" It does happen, but its just a slow process. I found for the longest time that it was easier on me if I ate the same things most of the time and I gradually added in new things over time. At this stage it is hard to get in 64oz of water so just keep sipping away the best that you can. You just don't want to get dehydrated b/c that's no fun at all. I am surprised that your dr thinks you can get all of your protein in thru foods at this stage b/c I would assume that you're still eating VERY small portions of things??? I definitely used protein shakes at your stage and still do sometimes. I know alot of people years out that still supplement with them daily. If you are able to tolerate them and it helps you reach your protein goal for the day then I don't think it will hurt you at all to use them. Getting in enough protein is so important always, but especially at this early stage when you're losing weight rapidly. Also, Cottage cheese is high in protein and easy on the tummy. Hope this helps! Good Luck and hang in there b/c things will be getting back to "normal" soon!!!!!!

I got nothing but pureed food for a month. I got so sick of yogurt and cottage cheese. Then I got to introduce a new food every day or two. The only thing I had to put off a long time was salad and red meat. I feel normal now, in that I can go to any restaurant and find something I can tolerate. Sometimes I wish I could pull a string and open up my pouch so I can pig out just once in a while. We had our Labor Day celebration today at my house - very lean pork loin w/sugar free BBQ sauce, light wheat bread, baked sweet potatoes, vegetable and cheese tray, chips made out of vegetables that are supposed to taste like potato chips (they were actually really good, a brand called Flat Earth at WalMart), and a SF apple pie I made. A nice little bariatric-friendly meal, no potato salad or cake. But everything was so good, and everybody loved it. Sometimes I get PO'd because I can't hold as much as I would like (but I used to weigh 340 pounds when I ate what I wanted, so maybe it's a good thing). So, I think you'll feel sort of normal again, but maybe never completely normal. You might always have some restrictions as far as how much and what you can hold, but at the end of the day you'll be glad about it. As for the protein, I think you'll have a hard time getting in all your grams from food, being so early out and everything. I can do it now, but at first it was hard to do, even with the supplements. Hang in there, it'll get a lot better. :)
