I just went through this recently.  I had a surgeical procedure done and lost 10 pounds in two weeks.  I am 5'5" and weighted 113 pounds.  I was just skin and bones.  I called my surgeon and he suggested eating foods that had more substance and calories such as eggs and whole wheat bread to my diet and drink 2-3 protein shakes a day.  I followed his protocol and have gained 3 pounds in the last 10 days.  I would call your surgeon or nutritionist for healthy hints.  I would not suggest eating foods that are not good for you in order to gain weight.  It seems like you could eat more protein for breakfast instead of the tomatoes and fruit.  Put your ham on bread or eat cheese with it. You should be eating more frequently.   These are only suggestions.  Good Luck!

These are good suggestions.  The only two things that make me sick are protein drinks and eggs.  I eat a lot of meat.  I was interested to see that you went through the same thing.  HOw much do you weigh now?  Thanks for the support, keep in touch, I would like to know how you are doing.  Delynn

Delynn As this moring I weighed 117 pounds.  I would like to get to around 120 but no more than 125 pounds.  Have you tried many protein drinks?  I must have ordered 20 trial packets and found 3 that I can tolerate.  I also add the Unjury unflavored protein mix to things such as oatmeal and pudding.  I myself has just started to tolerate eggs in the last couple of months.  I try to eat them once a week and I usually can't fininsh the whole egg sandwich with ham, cheese on a hollowed out bagel.  Good Luck! I didn't see if you were using protein drinks. That might help you hold onto some muscle. Also, I'm guessing not all lab levels were run or you'd be reporting low iron and low vit D.

I will stand by what I always say and that is that no one who is healthy STAYS too thin. I would gain on what you are eating/drinking, but then I'm 13 yrs out. I also shot past my goal, but had the typical bounce back between 14 & 18 months out.

Since then, I've had 3 regains, 2 plain old sugar, 1 from fruit. Fructose absorbs even more efficiedntly than cheap table sugar!

I can see you thinking "calories in", but adding sugar only adds fatty tissue and does not add bone or muscle, which is what you want your 15# to be.

You might try 4-6 smaller meals and 4-6 protein drinks a day to help keep the muscle on you, as well as large amounts of calcium citrate to retain your bone mass.

But I would not recommend sweet tea or even all the non-sweet tea. I didn't see much water there. I know it's hard to think in terms of what will make you thin (also keeps you thin) when you are too thin for this moment, but please don't sacrifice your health for the next 10 yrs to try to fix a problem that is only temporary.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I drink 4- 16 oz bottles of water in the non-sweet, caffine free hot tea and a little half and half with it.  My nut said this counted as my water intake.  The protein drinks and eggs are the only thing that make me sick.  (vomiting sick)  Thanks for your support and help,  Delynn

I never thought I would worry about being too skinny but the same situation happened to me after I reached my goal.  I just  kept dropping weight!  I was told to eat 5-6 meals a day and try to stay at 1250-1500 calories. At my one year appointment the goal they made for me was to try to eat more and different foods. (I was afraid of some things because I didn't want to get sick and I never ate carbs) I think that you need to have some snacks. My suggestion is NUTS, my favorite is the south beach approved mix from Planters(cashews, almonds, walnuts etc.)  Added protein,  they go down easy and they add calories.  Beef Jerky- not the sticks but the nuggets, chewy and full of protein. I can't stand protein drinks but I am able to drink Dannon Light & Fit yogurt smoothies. they have 7 grams of protein, they are only 4 ounces-  I drink one in the morning with my vitamins. I also can't drink milk but for some reason tolerate ice cream, so try to have a low calorie treat, yogurt or a piece of cheese before bed. I have been stable since I started doing this, I am 15 months out and 15 pounds below my doctor's goal. Good Luck!

I think this is a common problem among us "lightweights". I have gone about 2-3 lbs below my goal of 135 and I would like to go a little lower for "insurance". I am only 5' 2.5 so you must be very very thin at 5'4 and 102! I wear a size 6-8 and I am very comfortable in that size. I eat more often during the day and find myself munching on nuts, seeds, pudding, popcorn, 100 calorie snacks, etc. My suggestion would be to eat more often and add lots more carbs. My doctor told me that I will probably go to 10 lbs below goal and then slowly start to regain and stabilize. I have heard that your body tells you when it's time to stop losing. I also have heard that we can lose up to 18 months post op. I exercise about 5-6 x a week and if I burn 200 calories I let myself have some ice cream, pudding or popcorn. I don't want to go down to a size 4 because I want to be able to wear the new clothing I just acquired and more that I am getting altered at the tailor! Good luck and happy gaining.
