Hello everyone, I had rny on Oct 23 2006 sso I am about 10 months out.  My highest weight was 236.  I am now ant 106 at 5'4 and i am still losing.  I am getting a lot of comments at work about being too thin, worries abouty being anerxoic and so on.  I eat 3 meals a day.  Typically I eat 4or5 slices of ham and some cherry tomatoes and grapes for breakfast, or other fruit.  Often the same for lunch.  I eat what ever the family has at dinner with smaller portions, but as much as I can take.  For example, last night we had fajitas, rice and beans.  I only ate a little rice (3 forkfuls)but I had 2 fajita tacos.  I drink about 6 cups of hot tea with splenda per day, and one glass of sweet tea (regular sugar) after dinner.  I am a size 2, and the last shirt I brought came from the mary kate and ashley girls wear section of wal-mart.  I have a dr. appointment on sept 20 to test my resting metabolic rate.  I had an appointment with my pcp and she said all vitamin levels are fine except i am a little low in b-12.  She wants me to come in for shots.  I am not bragging.  Honestly, I am worried.  My ribs stick out now as it is and i don't want to lose anymore, but I don't want to gain any back.  I came to this forum to see if anyone has ever had this problem or concern as well and what did you do about it.  I want to be at a healthy weight say about 120.  I have quit exercising much, I used to walk 2 miles per day.  I do coach volleyball in an unairconditioned gym, so that gives me some exercise, and a lot of sweating.  Any thoughts.  please comment (don't flame me please, i need constructive help.)

Hi ! Although I do not have your problem, I have seen on the various boards that it is a fairly common problem post op.  I have heard it said that eventually your body will stop losing and settle at a weight.  Many people have a little rebound gain farther out, so maybe you will get to a healthier weight later on.  You might try doing the opposite of the usual rules for awhile.  Many people in your situation allow themselves drinks with their meals, more snacks ect.  You might try upping your protein shakes, add a little milk, and sf pudding mix, ice and blend it up.  It makes a nice thick shake, and gives you a few more calories.  Try eating peanut butter, nuts, whole fat cheeses.  Most of us limit these types of things, but in your case I'd eat whatever sounds good, and doesn't make you sick.   Eventually you may need to be more careful, but for now I'd up your calories.  You would probably even be safe having extra carbs if that would help you maintain/gain a little weight.    Good luck!!                          DeeAnn

No flames here! I have read many times about this too. Generally the body will settle in at a weight on its own and there can even be some rebound weight gain at 18mth-2.5yrs post op (for most). Upping your caloric intake should help to slow down your loss so I agree with DeeAnna~whole cheese, nuts, peanut butter, extra good carbs, etc. Hopefully you won't have to give up exercise for too long due to this b/c the health benefits are so important to our overall health and well being going far beyond just trying to lose weight from exercise. I hope your dr can give you some answers on this~Good Luck to You!

I've seen people wolf down potatoes if they start getting too thin, and that helps stop the weight loss. That's never been a problem for me, I can't imagine ...

I had lap band, not rny, so I can't really advise on the food issue.  But, I honestly thing this is less about what's going into your mouth, and more about what's going on in your head.  Sometimes it's hard for people to get past the "losing" mindset for fear of regaining.  Have you considered seeing a psychologist who deals with obesity or food issues?   Tami
