Hi All,  I know I have seen this topic before but cannot rememeber the answer.  I just started having toe and leg cramps at night.  What causes these? I am 46 years old and have had relatively few issues since WLS. Terry

Terry, How are your potassium levels? Mine were dropping so I've started having part of a banana with breakfast every morning. I've read several poster on OH who've had problems with potassium and it can cause leg cramps. Good luck, Pam

The easiest is water. Getting water (as in water), lots of it? How much calcium and what kind? Assuming you're doing calcium citrate at about 2000mg and a reasonable amount of water, then I take magesium citrate. This is NOT the clean out stuff in the littleb ottle!

Magnesium citrate 200mg in pills. You might have tried magnesium oxide, but it remains in the gut and can give you looser stools, but it is not absorbed systemically.

Not knowing this, I kept increasing my mag cit and suddenly, i had no foot and leg cramps! Itake 4 (x 200mg = 800), but many are helped by 1 pill. In the meantime, I added mag oxide for the OTHER Problem and it worked very well.

Either form is very cheap, but the mag cit is a little harder to find.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I started having some bad leg cramps a couple of weeks ago during the night and started on potassium supplements, and it's helped a lot. I'm sure glad because it hurts like the devil to have to get up and walk out those cramps.

In my experience, and according to my doctor, leg cramps are usually caused by dehydration and/or low potassium.  I'm no doctor, but thats what it was for me! Good luck, hope you feel better. Shadoe
