I've had these since 2003, almost always within 1 hr of going to bed. I use Levsin (rx anti-spasmodic) to cut them from about 15 minutes to 4, and of course, no one can dx them. Because I have such trouble breathing, I'm thinking they are diaphragm spasms.
My question to you others is does it follow pain meds, for example, Vicodin or percoset? Has anyone looked up the Sphincter of Oddi phenomenon? Sometimes taking the pain med with a spoonful of peanut butter can prevent that type of spasm. Sinced I've spent the summer with Vicodin as my main food source (LOL), I started taking it with a dab oif PB and that helped the spasms I could definitely hook to the Vicodin, just not the others.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
You brought up a good point... My pain is usually in the diaphram area and I'm a singer, sometimes I get them after I've been singing a while, but then again sometimes there seems to be no reason for the cramp/spasm. I don't take any pain meds so I can' t comment on that. Does the Sphincter of Oddi have to do with meds? I can figure out how to stop mine when I get them, other than laying on my back and stretching with my arms up - that's the only thing that helps me and that only works sometimes. Hopefully he'll have some answers.
