ObesityHelp.com and eNutritionCare.com would like to announce that the Nutrition Forum will now be monitored by the select Registered Dietitians of eNutritioncare.com.  To meet the needs of the ObesityHelp.com community the Diet and Nutrition Forum leaders will be here to answer the questions. We would also like topic and/or article suggestions from the community at large.  What nutrition issues would you like covered?  If you would like your questions answered by a dietitian, please post them on the Diet and Nutrition message board.....we are watching! You can also learn more about the forum leaders here.

I would like to see expected calorie consumption and nutritional info for different stages of RNY postops. Like how much at one year you should be eating calorie wise and number  of grams of protien, carbs and fat we should be taking in. Sher

I'd also like to see what the suggested amount of calories, protiens and so on we should be eating or aiming for in different stages of post-op RNY.  I'll be 5 years out in Jan. and I would really like to see what I should be aiming at. Tammy P

In addition to the ideas already posted, I think that everyday basic things should be incorporated also.  Things like meds to avoid, common lab values (even lay people know what their lab values are in relation to their wls), complications to supplement non compliance, caloric breakdown (as in how many of my cals should be protein, carbs and fat). Thanks. Anjanette

I would like to see some sample menus for long-term patients. I know I struggle all the time with boredom, laziness and just plain unimagination when it comes to planning meals.

I'd like to see any medical studies showing which diets/eating plans lead to the most success for WLS patients... as everything seems to be a guess. I'd like them to address people who may have food intolerances related to their WLS, and suggestions to work around them. I'd also like to see strategies for coping with long-term weight gain for RNYers, Lap-Banders, and others.

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

I’d like to see specific foods really analyzed as to just how healthy they are and what might be the best choice out there.  Like, let’s say, mayonnaise.  What is good about mayo, what is bad about mayo, what should we look for/avoid when looking at mayo, are there better choices than mayo …

I too would like to know if most surgeons and nutritionists recommend using the BMR for calorie restrictions . Most people on these boards seem to eat less than that # and I am confused because my nutritionist says that eating fewer than that # will cause you to stall . Also, I would like more information on internal hernias and our risk for them.

A couple of things I have always wanted to see are: Healthy and easy snacks (I know this may differ by nutritionist, but an idea and portion size would be great!) What portion sizes at a RNY'er stages are considered normal?  (I know caloric counts have been mentioned several times, but I always have wondered about how much should raise a red flag.) What the caloric differences between someone who exercises alot vs. someone who doesn't exercise at all should be?  (I know I exercise and move a lot, and I get hungry more often because of it, so my caloric intake is higher than many other post-ops) I think that it would be good information for others to know and be aware of.   Hunger signals vs. emotional eating signals (this is a huge subject in my support group) Those are some things that I have called my nutrionist about in the past that would have been awesome to read about.   Thanks for everything you do!!! ~Shannon
