Hi all. I am a year and 4 months out.  I am currently at 150.  I'm 5'8"  my weight before surgery was 335. My question is when do I stop loosing weight? I notice that I am eating more... but I am still loosing weight.   The other question I have is off the subject... does anyone go on a chips crave?  I have lately and I feel like I cant stop... What can I do?

Please advise!!!  Thanks.

what is your surgeons goal for you? if you are still loosing too fast you may want to call him... as for the chips crave, stop! now!... i went on a chip bing only dorito cool ranch, i was eating a whole bag in a day, not a .99 cent bag the big bag. stop if you can, find somethingelse to put in your mouth, chips are empty calorie carbs, no good. once you stop, it may take a few days to get used to it, but the cravings will stop... hth =) smile, gina

I'll eat 2 or sometimes 3 bags (the small ones that come in the value paks)  I know that is really bad.  I too have been craving lots of peanut butter!   as  far as my weight the doctor did say that  about 155 - 160.  I just would like not to loose anymore weight.

Well, I can pretty much guarantee you that if you keep up  the "chip thing" you WILL stop losing weight!!  HAHA   Really, your body "should" just stop on it's own, but I know that does not always happen. If it continues, you need to contact your doctor or at least your nutritionist.  I am personally not a "chip" person. My favorite is chocolate!! But, I just find in general that the more carbs I eat, the more I crave, so I have to find other alternatives. Nuts work well for me, but I have to be careful with those too because of the fat content. Have you tried the Rice Cake chips? They are nice and crunchy with less calories and fat than traditional chips.  Glad you posted! That's the first step in taking control.   Hugs,   Piggybabe

Hi Betty. I'm a little more than a year out, and I've been losing weight very slowly for the past couple of months. My surgeon said I'd stop at 180-185 pounds, but I've dropped to 150 pounds. I'm loving it, but I don't want to lose any more, because my skin is getting really droopy and I don't want to have plastic surgery. I won't worry about it too much unless I lose another 10 pounds or so. And I also love chips and crackers. I'm trying so hard to stay away from them. I don't have much trouble avoiding sweets, but I sure do like the chips and crackers. It would probably be best if we fight that craving the best we can. :)

Around the 18mth mark most people will naturaly stop losing weight on their own. If you are still losing weight rapidly at this stage then I would call the dr and/or nutritionist for guidance. The main thing they will say is to up your caloric intake with "good foods" until you find that happy medium. Its so much trial and error b/c eveyrone is different. Do you know how many calories you are currently eating? What's your exercise routine like? Then we see alot of people between the 2-3yr mark that will have the rebound weight gain of generally around 10-15lbs. Not everyone sees this, but it does happen often.  As far as the chip cravings go (and the peanut butter) it sounds to me like you're craving the salt found in the chips and pb. I do eat chips occasionally, but try not to eat them daily. I too got on a dorito kick and couldn't stop for several days~once the scale moved upward it was motivation for me to skip the chips, LOL!  Congratulations on all of your success and please let us know how things are going for you!

The honeymoon period is generally about two years. I'm assuming you're not losing MUCH weight - perhaps a pound or two per month? I have continued to lose over the last year, although much more slowly than before.

I'm down to 19% body fat, and 150 lbs like you do I'm MUCH shorter than you however, and I'm done - the remainder of the 'excess weight' I carry is SKIN, not FAT. (At 19% body fat, I only have 29 lbs of fat total, and I'm 32 lbs above the surgeon's 'goal'.)

I have seen several people who lost down to about 19-20 BMI (slightly underweight), and then bounced back about 10lbs to a healthier weight. If you feel you are losing too much, there are things you can do.

The first is easy - eat more carbs. If eating more doesn't slow it down or stop the weight loss, then talk to your PCP or surgeon about pancreatic enzymes which can also halt your weight loss. They do not have to be taken for life - usually a few weeks or months is enough.

As a last resort, they can do a revision to lengthen the active part of of your intestine.

Is it the chips or the salt? Since you said you feel like crap, possible your "lytes" are out of whack OR you are iron deficient.

It's pretty normal to overshoot goal for some ppl, but then there is pretty much a guaranteed bounce back of 10-15 # when the end comes, so you don't want to try to stop yourself at goal THEN have bounceback, you know?

I've never seen anyone healthy who stays too thin. Sickly ppl, yes, but ones with decent labs don't stay way too thin for long.
