My husband has low platelets due to a bone marrow disorder (myelofibrosis).  It was found after his WLS due to the blood monitoring required post-WLS but actually looking back at old scans and blood tests - it was an issue for a bunch of years pre-WLS. They probably should do a bone marrow biopsy to see what is going on there. Best wishes!  Hope they find the issue soon. Kathy

A folate deficiency can cause leukopenia (broader name than then neutropenia).  Also, certain medications can cause it... clozapine (anti-psychotic), some heart arrthymia drugs, some thyroid meds, etc. Good luck!

My WBC has been gradually decreasing since WLS.  I pointed this out to both my surgeon and PCP multiple times and neither were concerned. I'm printing your post and will address with them again. I am convinced that we have to know more than the doctors if we are going to stay healthy. Thanks! Deb

I totally agree.  Mine started to drop after WLS was done.  I have two years prior blood work and they don't show the decline that I have in the WBC now.  I will do bone marrow biopsy just to rule that out.....but I do want some answers to this problem.  I don't want to be a bubble girl and have to stay away from everyone.  Its not fun.  I did it for 8 days! Hello,  thank goodness I saw this post.  My WBC and Platelet counts have been dropping for months.  No one has been too concerned until now because I am preparing to have plastic surgery to remove the excess skin on my stomach.  I received a callback from a hemotologist to set up an appt.  It will be interesting to see what he says compared to what others here have.    The plastic surgeon will cancel if they have not gone up with my next labs but I don't see how they could possibly go higher in just a couple weeks.  I have not been told anything I can do to improve them.  My protein levels are on the low side but still normal. Good luck to you!

I'm not a grad but I have a non WLS client who had really low WBC counts. His had something to do with a B12 deficiency. Are you giving yourself shots or doing sublinguals? He now gives himself shots and his counts are back up and he LOOKS a lot better. sorry, back to lurking now.  judi

Hi! Debbie

I have had a similar problem as you have , I went to go and have surgery one morning and the doctor told me he couldn't operate on me because my white cells were too low and the red ones were too high . I went to see a hemotoligist and even had a bone marrow done to see what the problem was . Inturn they found nothing wrong with me , they did come back to a decent range , but I have to have blood work done very often . I'm 65 and will be 6 years out on the 24th, I have lost so much weight that it actually scares me from 327 to 107 and I do mean skinny , no boobs no ass no nothing . I'm grateful for the surgery , but don't know whats going on with me right now . I have also developed neuropathy in my one leg real bad and had to have a pain stimulator put into my spine for the extrem pain that I have . I had a upper GI done recently to see how my pouch was , and he said it looks like it did right after surgery . I have to say I've been eating everything in sight to try to put weight back on , crap I've never ate before. I know lots of people would love the weight to come off like mine has , I was at 170 for 4 years and I was satified with that, and all of a sudden I started to drop to where I am at now . They can't find anything wrong with me from the surgery , my doctor that did my surgery retired , so I see my regular pc . He says I'm still with in the weight limits for my height which is 5' 4  . I had got down to 100 ans it scared the crap right out of me . I  look like a deprivaded of food elephant from all the skin on my legs , but I can live with that at my age , not out to win any beauty awards LOL .            Sandy
