I have asked my surgery and my nut how many calories/fat/carbs I am supposed to ingest post-op.  They both said not to worry about that until later. However, I want to start planning long-term NOW.   For those of you that have been out longer than a year or two, what do you count? Calories? Fat? Carbs? All of the above? Some of the above? None of the above? If you do count some/all of the above, what is your daily limit(s)?

I can really EAT solid meat, steak, pork chops etc...I don't do protein supplements, I like cottage cheese and I snack on mozzarella. I just make sure I eat it first!! I probably need to up the calories some since I'm working out much heavier again now but I'll adjust it.

I am a little over two years out.  I count calories 1400 is the goal (but it's hard for me to get that much) Protein - 100 g Carbs - I mainly watch to see, I don't like them to be more then my protein.  Fat - I watch this too, but I'm not too concerned with it.  I will say that it's an over all balance that you'll be looking for. I dont "limit" my calories. But over a week I want to see them be about 1400. This was a very bad week for me calorie wise. I went from only getting 800cals at the beginning of the week to today I think I'll be in about 1550 calories..... But it evens it's self out over the week.  Best of wishes to you

I'm 22 months out and I track my calories/fat/carbs/protein/fiber and my weight on a daily basis.  I use software for my PDA from calorieking.com; it's similar to what's available from fitday.com or sparkpeople.com.  I currently weigh around 200 (give or take a pound depending on the day) and have been losing an average of 4-5 pounds per month for the past 6 months.  Slow but steady.  I exercise 6-8 times per week - lift weights 2-3x, and cardio 4-5x.  So I eat more calories that some folks to support my exercise habit.  Here's an average day for me: Calories 1900-2100 Carbs 250-300 Fat 40-60 Fiber 25-50 Protein 120-150 (all from food - not using supplements) I eat more carbs on the days when I exercise - I need the energy to get through the workouts.  If I weren't exercising, I'd probably need to eat around 1600-1800 calories to maintain, and 1400-1600 to lose.

Good luck on your continuing journey -

Kellie
