WLS Grads...Does the chewing get easier?!
Hello everyone,
Thought this would be a good section to pose my question. I am about 3 weeks post op right now and find it hard to have to chew everything so much (applesauce consistency). As a pre-op I knew I didn't chew my food well enough but now if I don't, I know I'll pay for it! So my question to you grads is...does it get easier? Does the habit of chewing everything much more thoroughly become more second-nature or do you still have to really think about when you have chewed enough?
Thanks everyone!
It does get easier. I will always chew more carefully than what I did preop- but I can eat much faster now without so much care of how much I've chewed. I probably still should take it slow and I do try too, but it's not so crucial now. But having said that, I dont' eat a lot of corse foods like steak. Eating those I still make sure it's chewed well, but I've definitely relaxed my standards from 2 years ago as a new post op. It does come more second nature now.
It becomes second nature for the most part, but I had an instance 2 weeks ago where I was working on something and munching on cheese peanut butter crackers. I swallowed before chewing all the way and promptly spent the next four hours trying to throw up the cracker that was lodged in my stoma.
Blessings, Jennifer
