I was wondering if anyone has a list of the good carbs that are ok to eat?  I am a year and a half post op and just trying to kick start my weight loss again.  I still want to lose about another 20 pounds.  Thanks for any info you have!

Here's a link to a website that has great information on good carbs vs. bad carbs.  I've linked you to the page on good carbs, but you may want to poke around the site for additional information.   http://www.goodcarbs.org/#what_are_good_carbs Also, as a quick reference, here's the list of what constitutes a good carb:
  • whole vegetables
  • whole fruits
  • beans
  • legumes
  • nuts
  • seeds
  • whole cereal grains  As for me, I'd add whole-grain breads and whole-grain pasta to the list, along with brown rice.  Make sure you're getting whole-grain products, not just "whole wheat," especially when looking for bread products.  Whole wheat flour is highly processed and is also considered a "bad carb."  Good luck on your continuing journey -  Kellie

Well dang it, I just bought a bag of whole wheat flour and thought I was doing the right thing.

Whole wheat flour is better than enriched white flour, but not as good as whole grain flour.  Here's a link to the section at Whole Foods website about whole grain flours. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/grocery/flour_facts .html Happy baking!   Kellie

Whole wheat is OK if it isn't "enriched" whole wheat.  You have to read the labels on breads, pastas, etc.  Ingredients that start with "enriched white or wheat" aren't your best choice, even if the package looks healthy!  You have to be sure you're getting whole wheat or whole grain.  Just avoid that "enriched" word = processed!

Actually, "enriched" means that they added back some of the vitamins & minerals that were removed during the milling process.

Have you posted your question on the Nutrition forum?  I would encourage you to do that as that is what I did.  A wonderful person who is a dietician who specialized in WLS answered my questions clearly and completely. Good luck! Anjanette
