hi everyone, tomorrow will be 7 days post-op from a lap rny.  i am having such a hard time with the emotional eating right now.  i so want a bagel and cream cheese but have to have sugar free jello.  i have two children and I have found that it is difficult for me to cook for them because it makes my cravings even stronger.  Last night i grilled cheeseburgers, a rice salad and green beans.  i was in such a bad mood because i couldn't have any.  does it get any better when a few months down the road i can have a few bites of that food and not have to have beef broth?  I am wondering if i have made a mistake having the surgery?!?  Any thoughts? thanks, Meagan

Hang in there, it will most definitely get better!!!  I remember at 7 days out I was having the strongest craving for Pizza Hut Pan Pizza.  It does suck, but get through it the best way you can and I promise it'll get better.  Your body has gone through alot of changes in the last week, once it settles down and you start dropping the weight, then things will look alot brighter. {{{ HUGS }}}

I really didn't have cravings for a while, but when they hit, boy do they hit.  It always helped me to remind myself that when I am craving a particular food--that is usually head hunger rather than real hunger.  So I focus on the facts (just the facts ma'am) to get away from the emotions driving me.  At this point it must be tough cooking for others when you are on such a limited diet.  But when possible, maybe you could fix things that have a similar flavor profile.  So maybe have a cheese soup when they have cheeseburgers?   And depending on the age of your children, this might be a great time to start them in the kitchen.  The food network has a lot of good ideas and recipes that are kid friendly.  And kids tend to eat healthier options when they are involved in the preparation anyway. I love to eat and eat good food, so I know it can be tough at times, but it will get better.  Keep the reasons why you did this in the front of your mind, and I'm sure you'll get over this rough spot. Thanks so much for all of the replies.  I couldn't do this without the support and guidance from this website.  My husband means well but doesn't truly understand the whole emotional eating thing.
I was visiting a neighbor today and she was making this great looking sauce for spaghetti, everything homemade and i just looked away and visited.  Then, i came home and had a protein drink and I'm happy to say that I'm ok right now.
What kinds of suggestions do you have for protein drinks and supplements?  Do you know where to buy the brand Any Whey protein powder?  My nutritionist said to get 76 grams of protein a day.  That seems almost impossible to me!
Thanks again!

Hi, I'm 3 yrs out and still have eating issues with all the food I can't eat. I gues that's the way it's going to be for the rest of my life. Gradually you will be able to eat fairly normal as I do now.,it's just certain things I can't and I will just have to accept it and move on. My huge weight loss and the health that has been restored to me weigh out any food in the world. Focus on that. But how I would love to sit down and have a big plate of fetttucine.lol. Good luck and God bless. peggy
