Calories & Tracking - Questions

So it is my first day back on www.fitday.com and I started tracking like back in the old days. I'm in shock how full I am feeling when finally eating really well and boosting back up that protein. I know there are a few formulas at figuring out how many calories you need to drop weight. I'm using a 1st goal weight of 150 x 13(light activity multiplier) = 1950  My current weight is 202. I just can't imagine getting back up to 1900 calories or even 1600. Just curious how many calories are working for you based on your weight goals? Link to my fitday - http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=STACY KIELTY This is what I am at so far today and I probably could force myself into doing one more protein snack before bed but I've already hit 111 grams of protein today and almost 1200.  Do I really need to do that snack?

Wow!  You did a great job at writing everything down.  I am sure that will be key to your success:)  I would imagine that you could leave off that last protein snack.  You got so much in already.  I think we should not eat if we are not hungry.  After all, that is how we lost our weight with WLS in the first place.  Keep up the great work and I am sure you will be successful!  I am cheering for you!!!  Remember to keep up the exercise also.  If nothing else, my husband and I get in the walks.  We just took a walk around 7:30 when it was getting a little cooler outside.  Have another great day tomorrow:)

Thanks! I agree on the tracking.  That usually is the key for me.  I believe the reverse to be true on listening to my brain when it comes to appetite.  If  I just listened to my appetite I wouldn't eat all day and end up eating one lousy meal when I finally do get hungry.  Maybe two. Then it screws up my energy, thinking, eating for the following day, etc and I get starving and overeat.   Looking back when on being off the wagon this time around I see a clear pattern...  I  shift between undereating and overeating from day to day.  I also made  poor choices... you know those high fat, high calorie, high sugar ones.  Again, it was as if I completely ignored the fact I had WLS!!!! ARGHH!!   The stuff  I use to dump on...  well now I don't really dump that often and when I do it doesn't seem to have as much as an impact on me as it use to that first year after surgery. DANGEROUS!!  I started to eat around my pouch so to speak too by snacking here and there and not staying aware of what I was putting into my mouth.  Even better.. if I ate too much I'd pu**** down with liquid after instead of allowing that uncomfortable full feelling to remind me to stop eating. Exactly what Kligman warned us about Pre-WLS!  I think back to the contract I signed.  If I get the guts to go back and see him again soon I'll ask him if I can resign and renew.  HAHA.. Thankfully eating truy large quantities like I did before WLS is still impossible for me but that unconscious eating/snacking here and there really caught up.   It seems like when  I eat based on planned intervals regardless if hungry or not is when I get the best results.   You too.. Have a great day as well and thanks for responding =)

Stacy, your food diary looks very good. I am no expert but aiming for 1900 calories a day to lose weight sounds like  lot to me unless you are an exercise junky and are burning mucho calories every day. I would think anywhere between 1200 and 1500 calories a day would be more like it. Sher

Former exercise junky that would like to get back to that but not just yet.  Few more weeks.  First trying to just get the regular activity in again and diet stable and consistent.  I did end up doing the last snack after all.  FInal stats for the day - Calories 1387 and protein at 128.  After I get a couple more weeks under my belt I'll reconnect with my surgeons nutritionist and get her thoughts too. Thanks for the feedback Sher.

Sounds familar!  Glad to still see you are around. I'm sticking with a small little email group for daily accountability.  Want to join us?  I was 150 so about 10 - 20lbs from goal last summer.  Right now I'm just getting focused on going back to that 150 as my first goal.  I suspect it will probably take me a good 5-6 months staying on track but one day at a time... ya know??!!  This time I'm going to do it.  I feel like I've learned a lot from this fall.  I laid the path long ago. So did you.  So we fall down and just dust ourselves off and get back up.  No biggie. Glad to hear about the new roomie!  My boyfriend just moved in a few weeks ago as well too.

Hey!  Would love to be in on your lil email group, I need to do something.  Use this email, [email protected] I am disgusted with myself.  Skipped a picnic that meant alot to the b/f last weekend cause I didn't want to be seen in shorts...meeting his friends.   Take care! Leigh Ann

I actually prefer sparkpeople.com to fitday.com.  Sparkpeople is easier to use in my opinion.  I also log my specific exercise routine/goals and it comes up with a nutrition needs that seem to be dead on the money for me.  I am in maintain mode though.  I have a friend who is not RNY who is dieting and says sparkpeople is working for her as well.  It gives a caloric range, fat range, protein range, and carb range.  The carb range is a little high for me so I manually adjusted it down.

It might behelpful to you so here'sthe link~ http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
